The Saraii are a tall, blue-skinned Near-Human race originally from the planet Sif in the Minos Cluster. The species was discovered following the colonisation of the Phare system shortly after rise of the Galactic Empire. For unknown reasons, the rate of Force-sensitivity among the Saraii are even lower than is normally the case with most other species, with Stefan Ronin, the Imperial Grand Admiral of the Emperor's Hammer being one of the rare exceptions.
Prior to the arrival of the Empire, the Saraii had reached a tipping point because they lacked the technology to sufficiently harvest their planet’s resources to support their rapidly burgeoning population. Consequently, they had descended into a fierce series of civil wars that had engulfed Sif for much of the preceding century. With the coming of the Empire, however, the Imperials brought new technologies that not only addressed the natives’ own domestic troubles but in fact transformed Sif into a major agricultural capital for the entire Aurora Sector; in return, the Saraii gladly pledged their allegiance to the Empire and became loyal supporters of Emperor Palpatine, and later Planetary Governor Astronicus Dlarit, whom they saw as their people’s saviour.
While it has never been confirmed due to the Saraii’s history being lost in the intense civil wars of century prior to the Battle of Yavin, Krath scholars from the former Shadow Academy on Eos long suspected the Saraii to be an offshoot of the Chiss species. If so, this could well account for the particularly low rate of Force-users among the Saraii. More recently, scholars from Lyspair have speculated that the name Saraii might be a corruption of the word Saarai, which means ‘truth’ in the original language of the ancient Sith, and that the Saraii may therefore have originated from the Chiss colony that entered the known galaxy during the Great Galactic War to serve the Sith Empire. If this is true, it could explain the ancient Star Destroyer that was found buried underneath the building that became the Imperial governor’s mansion and later Sadow Palace. Furthermore, it would explain why many Saraii swore fealty to Tron Sadow during the Exodus and helped in the initial colonisation of the Orian system, where many still live to this day, having taken up positions in the security forces of the Dlarit Corporation.
More recently, a handful of Chiss from the Chiss Ascendancy that have found their way into the Dark Brotherhood have been welcomed into Saraii society as trial-borns, lending further support to their ancestry. For example, General Sipask of the Dlarit Police was born on the planet Crustai but joined House Skora following his enlistment into the Dlarit Security Force. Whatever the case, while the origins of the Saraii may never be known for certain, the families that remained with the Brotherhood continue to revere their dark masters as saviours and remain dedicated to the order and stability given them by the Iron Throne.
