Eris was a vessel in Clan Plagueis’ Ascendant Fleet. It is a Carrack-class light cruiser assigned to Task Force Dirge.
History
The Eris was one of a multitude of ships brought in to help reconstruct the navy following its devastation in 34 ABY. Pressed into service as a means to help protect and escort its remaining vessel, the Ascendancy, the Carrack was a common sight when the Ascendant Fleet was pushed onto a war footing. It has proved its worth several times over across varying engagements, both against the Iron Forces and later The Collective. It served Clan Plagueis loyally in the Ascendant Fleet for years. However, in 40 ABY, during the Fifteenth Great Jedi War, it was captured by The Children of Mortis. The Children then used it in a false flag attack during a summit of several Brotherhood Clans on Cantonica. During the ensuing battle, the Eris was destroyed.
Characteristics
Extremely fast and remarkably maneuverable for its three-hundred-and-fifty meters in length, the Carrack light cruiser is an escort and long-range patrol vessel capable of engaging far larger warships. First used by the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars, it was utilised as a secondary ship by the Galactic Empire. Capable of keeping pace with an StarWars made it a highly effective blockade runner and raider, as did its level of firepower. Outfitted with ten heavy turbolaser turrets and ten Ion cannon turrets, it is a noted threat to far larger ships and installations. What's more, while only lightly armoured and shielded, Carracks benefitted from a compartmentalized structure backed by reinforced bulkheads and a wealth of safeties. This made them deceptively tough in battles, and could remain operational with far more damage than most ships of a similar size. Furthermore, while it required a crew of seven-hundred-and-fifty to fully operate the ship, a Carrack could be flown with as few as two crewmen in the right places.
Although not intended to support ground assaults, the Carrack was capable of atmospheric flight and could transport three-hundred-and-fifty troops in passenger compartments. Combined with its ability to hold three-and-a-half thousand tons of equipment in its cargo holds, this meant it could be pressed into the role of a landing craft if needed. One additional noted edge the ship retained was its five tractor beam emiters, allowing it to hold, disable, or destroy any ship that came within reach of its weapons.
Role
Fielded by the Ascendant Fleet as a long-range escort, the Eris performs the duties of a picket and recon craft when accompanying Task Force Dirge. Its sheer speed and noted firepower make it well suited for both roles, countering enemy scouts while at the same time providing forward information for larger warships within its flotilla.
