Canto Bight Accords

The Canto Bight Accords were a multilateral treaty signed in 40 ABY between several Clans of the Dark Jedi Brotherhood following the events of the Alliances summit on Cantonica. The agreement established a temporary framework of non-aggression and cooperation between the participating Clans in response to the growing threat posed by the Children of Mortis.

The accords represented one of the rare occasions in Brotherhood history in which multiple Clans formally agreed to suspend hostilities with one another. The agreement was reached after a coordinated attack by Mortis forces attempted to sabotage a diplomatic summit in Canto Bight. The attack demonstrated the vulnerability of the Clans when acting independently and helped persuade their leaders to accept limited cooperation.

Background

In the years leading up to 40 ABY, the Clans of the Dark Jedi Brotherhood had suffered repeated attacks by the Children of Mortis. These assaults damaged multiple Clan territories and weakened several of their military forces. Despite the scale of the threat, the Clans remained divided by long-standing rivalries and political competition.

Seeking to address the crisis, Selika Roh, Dread Lord of Clan Plagueis, proposed a diplomatic summit between the Clans. The meeting was held in the city of Canto Bight on Cantonica and brought together the Consuls of Plagueis, Clan Taldryan, Clan Naga Sadow, Clan Vizsla, Clan Odan-Urr, and Clan Scholae Palatinae.

The summit was disrupted by an attack orchestrated by the Children of Mortis, who attempted to frame Clan Plagueis for the assault by deploying captured ships bearing Plagueian identification signals. The assembled Clan forces ultimately repelled the attack and uncovered the deception, leading the Consuls to reconsider the need for cooperation.

Terms of the Accords

The Canto Bight Accords established a limited framework for cooperation between the participating Clans. The primary provisions included:

  • A mutual non-aggression pact between the signatory Clans while the threat posed by the Children of Mortis remained unresolved.
  • Coordination against the Children of Mortis, including the possibility of military cooperation when necessary.
  • Sharing of intelligence information related to Mortis activities and movements.
  • Expanded economic cooperation, particularly between Clan Plagueis and Clan Scholae Palatinae.

One of the most significant provisions of the agreement was the commitment by Clan Plagueis to abolish state-sponsored slavery within its territory through a phased transition. The pledge addressed long-standing objections raised by several Clans, particularly Odan-Urr and Vizsla, and was a key factor in securing their support for the treaty.

Signatories

The accords were signed by the Consuls of six Clans of the Dark Jedi Brotherhood:

Each Consul formally ratified the agreement through biometric authorization during the concluding session of the summit.

Legacy

The Canto Bight Accords marked a rare moment of unity among the Clans of the Brotherhood. Although the agreement did not eliminate the deep political rivalries between the Clans, it created a temporary framework that allowed them to focus their attention on the shared threat posed by the Children of Mortis.

The treaty also marked a major political shift within Clan Plagueis, whose commitment to abolish state-sponsored slavery represented a significant change in its internal policies.

While the long-term stability of the accords remained uncertain, the agreement demonstrated that cooperation between the Clans was possible when confronted with an existential threat.
