Description

The artifact known as the Skin of Fire is a unique piece of ancient force-imbued Dark Armor. It appears as a dull black suit of interlocking plates married to a mesh of fine dark red metallic skin from an unknown reptilian beast. The suit is ancient, and covered with blast marks, sears, and scratches due to its advanced age. It weighs approximately 30kg. The Skin has an almost palpable Dark Side aura in the Force. Non Force-sensitives have even remarked on an eerie uncomfortable feeling exuded by the armor even when not in use. The Skin is known to obsess it’s owners.

History

It is one of the oldest surviving examples of ancient Bogan-manufactured armor found to date. The armor has seen incredible slaughter and combat. However, its known history is largely whispered rumor and uncertain facts. The creator of the Skin of Fire is unknown. Examination by scholars under the guidance of Darth Ashen have dated it as being of the First Great Schism era circa roughly 24500 BBY. Ancient Republic script can be found inside that backs up this fact. The script has proven so far indecipherable due to wear.

According to the Eos Holocron as consulted by Muz Ashen, the Skin was seen during the Battle of Corbos during the Hundred Year Darkness. However, the Darksider wearing it was not identified in the holocron’s memory banks. It does mention the nigh-impenetrability of the Skin to the protosabers of the time.

After this period the Skin was unseen for millennia. A rumor exists that Karnak Tetsu owned the Skin during the Old Republic Era, but this remains unverified. The Holocron of Antar IV contains a mention of the Skin being seen in use during the Fourth Battle of Ruusan by Lord Kaan, one of the gatekeepers encoded within the device. However, the wielder is unknown.

The Skin first came to the attention of the Dark Jedi Brotherhood through the actions of Chi Long before the Exodus. Kaiann Yetaru Entar later wore it during the Seventh Great Jedi War after being gifted it by Jaac. During the uprising, the Skin was used by Entar to battle the Herald Muz Ashen. The Skin’s wielder was eventually overcome and fled Brotherhood space in a fit of madness. Jac Cotelin dispatched Muz Ashen to recover the suit at all costs.

Later the Skin was recovered by the re-animated Zoraan during the Horizon conflict. He wore it in battle against Muz Ashen and Halcyon Rokir and was subsequently defeated. The Skin of Fire is now secured in the Dark Council's vaults again.

Properties

The Skin of Fire greatly enhances the strength of the wielder. It is also constructed of strange Force-imbued materials that are ironically unaffected by lightsabers, even though it predates their usage by more than 15,000 years. It is likewise resistant to Sith Swords and similar. Wielders of the Suit have proven to be capable of firing blasts of pure Dark Side energy in a manner similar to a Sith Amulet. The armor is known to be able to heal grievous wounds, and is rumored to be able to re-attach severed limbs. It also amplifies the Force abilities of the wielder on demand, at a price.

Drawbacks

The Skin can only be used by those with puissant abilities in the Force, such as those of Grand Master level. It has been known to drive lesser users raving mad and inspire extreme wanderlust. Journeymen rank force-sensitives who have tried it on usually die as the hoary treasure consumes their very essence. The Skin has a great hunger for life, and has been known to draw upon the very life-force of those who wear it to feed manifestations of the Force. The sensation has been described as akin to being on set on fire.
