The Rokirs are a family within the Dark Jedi Brotherhood.

Family Origins

The Patriarch

The life and history of the family founder can be found within the Vassan Rokir entry.

The Origin of the Rokir Name

The Ricaldian moon of Rokir is named after the son of the system's discoverer, Danal Ricaldi. Rokir Ricaldi was, as legend has it, a deadly and cold warrior who, approximately 11,300 BBY, distanced himself from his famous and altruistic father by leading bloody crusades of conquest across Ricaldi and other nearby systems in the Melantha Region. He was also said to have a hatred and jealousy of his beautiful sister, Phaeyta, who always remained close to her father.

This legendary family structure was later symbolized in the naming of the system's chief habitable planet, Ricaldi, and its two moons: the small and lush forest moon that held a close orbit to Ricaldi was named Phaeyta; and the other, dead and desolate moon, far from the warmth and light of Ricaldi was named Rokir.

When choosing his Dark Jedi name, the Family's patriarch, Chanlin Marr, decided to embody his two "selves":

His first "self" was that of a builder: his own efforts as a politician in the EH Imperial Senate, his father's legacy as a business owner, and his family heritage as famous architects; all notions of creation, and of building a better future. By this he took the name of the Marr family founder, "Vassan."

His other "self" was the darker half: his military service under the Galactic Empire and later the Emperor's Hammer, and the admission that true control, true change, required conflict. And so as his surname he chose that of "Rokir," the legendary warlord and conqueror.

Symbolically, his name represented a sort of balance: the creator, and the destroyer. This would eventually be reflected in the Family Seal: two hands, each in turn gripping a hammer of creation, and a dagger of death.

Founding The Family

During the height of his temporal prestige as Clan Arcona's Consul, Vassan Rokir sought to further carve his place within the history of the Brotherhood. Having already designed and overseen the creation of temples and/or bases for the Clan's then three Houses (Qel-Droma, Oriens Obscurum, and Galeres), Vassan saw a need for a collective of builders in the Brotherhood, as the most that is usually left behind to mark the ages are the creations of those that have come before. And "legacy," both as a concept and a goal, was Vassan Rokir's ultimate passion.

The First Members

Upon stating his intentions to found his own Family, Vassan quickly gained two adherents to the Family's philosophy of creation, conquest, and legacy: Halcyon, a long time member of Clan Arcona, and a persistent ally of Vassan's over the years; and Sykes, a relatively new member of the Clan, but one filled with ambition. Vassan tasked each potential member with creating and building something that would benefit the Clan, for Vassan did not intend the Rokir name to be merely an honorific, but a representation of having earned one's place within a secret fraternity of builders.

Family Mission

Membership Guidelines

From the original membership document:

"To become a Rokir requires dedication, loyalty, and hard work. But once these initial trials are completed, members will enjoy an amount of respect and influence unknown in most Dark Jedi Families. Unlike most other broods, the Family Rokir means something: We are Architects for the Dark Jedi Brotherhood.

“Meaning” also requires adherence to set guidelines, both as a sign of discipline and a hallmark of legitimacy.

1. There shall be no recruiting. Anyone who is to become a Rokir must inquire of his or her own free will and curiosity.

2. There are no guarantees. Even if a potential member completes all the initial trials of membership, he or she is still subject to approval for membership by a majority vote of all vested Family members.

There are two main requirements to become, and remain, a member in the Rokir Family:

1. A potential Rokir must have attained the minimum rank of Guardian in the Dark Jedi Brotherhood.

2. A potential Rokir must design, and write a description for, a facility for use by either the Dark Jedi Brotherhood on the whole, or for any specific Clan/House/Group within the Brotherhood. This "facility" can take a myriad of forms: a temple, a factory, a nightclub, a monument, etc.

While it is not required, it is customary upon acceptance into the family that new members add the Rokir surname to their Dark Brotherhood name."
