Promotion Requirements

The following requirements have been set forth as the path for new members to follow on their journey through the ranks. Completing the tasks indicated in each of the following steps will qualify a member for promotion – however, these steps are not the only requirement, the Brotherhood also expects all of its members to be consistently active contributors. Once a member has completed the tasks indicated in any individual step, their leaders will determine if they have also met the activity standard - if so, the leader will then send a promotion recommendation to the Master at Arms. The activity standard threshold is very low: as long as a member is consistently active at an acceptable level (consistent being the key), this requirement will be met.

The purpose of these various requirements is to provide a solid base of knowledge for new members that will maintain the fun environment we strive to foster. The tasks should be completed naturally while members enjoying themselves, not merely sprinting through them as if they were a checklist.

Clan and House leaders: Please do not hesitate to consult with the Master at Arms if you need help with these requirements. However always get in touch with other leaders within your Clan first: they may be able to provide the assistance you're looking for.

Journeyman ranks

Apprentice to Novice

One basic activity, ex:

  • Submit to a competition
  • Visit IRC

This is just an example. You need to do any one activity that shows that you are active and ready to proceed. The activity done here can be counted for the next promotion as well.

Novice to Acolyte

Complete three of the following:

  • Any two Shadow Academy exams (excluding the Dark Brotherhood Basics Shadow Academy course)
  • Any Dark Brotherhood competition
  • Logon to IRC and visit your Clan channel
  • Register on the Dark Brotherhood forums

Acolyte to Protector

  • Start working on your Character History on the Wiki.

Complete three of the following:

  • Five Shadow Academy exams in addition to any completed that were used to qualify for a promotion to Acolyte
  • Participate in three total competitions
  • Earn five Clusters of Fire
  • Complete Antei Combat Center Basics Shadow Academy course and your Character Sheet - ACC Basics can count towards your Shadow Academy exam course total
  • Logon to IRC and visit your Clan channel

Protector to Guardian

  • Four weeks at Protector required or complete a Master At Arms assigned task
  • Logon to IRC and visit your Clan channel
  • Complete your Order Core exam - this can count towards your total Shadow Academy requirements for other promotion tasks

Complete five of the following:

  • Ten Shadow Academy exams in addition to any completed that were used to qualify for a promotion to Protector
  • Participate in five total competitions
  • Earn fifteen (total) Clusters of Fire
  • Complete Antei Combat Center Basics Exam and your Character Sheet if you have not already done so - ACC basics can count towards your Shadow Academy exam course total
  • Qualify for the Antei Combat Center
  • Minimum two page character fiction to be approved by your House leadership or Master
  • Work on your character’s wiki article. This means that some reasonable effort should have been put into making a new article (for example, a rough character outline, headings, maybe an image) - basically, more than just the template.
  • Create a competition and run it with the assistance of your leadership
  • Earn a Merit Medal

Guardian to Jedi Hunter

  • Six weeks at Guardian required or complete a Master At Arms assigned task
  • Logon to IRC and visit your Clan channel
  • Register on the Dark Brotherhood forums

Complete five of the following:

  • Participate in ten total competitions
  • Take a Shadow Academy leadership exam
  • Minimum five pages of character fiction to be approved by your House leadership or Master - this can, and ideally should, be built off of your previous two page work
  • Two Antei Combat Center matches
  • Place in a competition
  • Earn 25 (total) Clusters of Fire
  • Earn a merit medal
  • Create a competition and run it with the assistance of your leadership

Jedi Hunter to Dark Jedi Knight

  • Six weeks at Jedi Hunter required or complete a Master At Arms assigned task
  • Must have a merit award
  • Must have a crescent or Legion of the Scholar

Complete:

  • Participate in 15 total competitions
  • Two Shadow Academy leadership exams
  • Create a competition and run it with the assistance of your leadership
  • Major House Summit Task as designated by your leadership or Master – these should be roughly equivalent to any of the other tasks presented below but can be fine-tuned to the member’s strengths – if your leader does not provided you with a task within a week of you requesting it, contact the Master At Arms. These tasks should not artificially expand on the six week time-in-rank requirement. Masters, a task you assign should have cursory approval from your House summit.

Complete three of the following:

  • Five Antei Combat Center matches
  • Earn 40 (total) Clusters of Fire
  • Minimum ten pages of character fiction to be approved by your House leadership or Master - this can, and ideally should, be built off of your previous five page work
  • Earn a Shadow Academy Degree
  • Complete a quality wiki article (it could be your character’s) as determined by your House leadership or Master
  • Create and run an additional competition
  • Complete a final fiction task, either a lightsaber fiction, a joint run-on task with your master, or any other major fiction task (roughly 10 pages) as designated by your House leadership or Master. Masters, a task you assign should have cursory approval from your House summit. If you do not receive instruction on this from your House leadership or Master within a week of requesting it and you wish to do this task, please contact the Master At Arms.

Equite ranks

Note that the things listed below are not the only requirement. Every single promotion in the Equite ranks is decided by a case-by-case system, since it is not possible to set complete guidelines for this. Listed below, however, are the things that are at least mandatory. For more information, please refer to the Equite guidelines.

Equite 1

Equite 2

  • Served successfully as Aedile or higher for 3 months,

OR

  • A similiar amount of leadership experience in other forms.

Equite 3

  • Served successfully as Aedile or higher for 6 months,

OR

  • Have trained at least one member to the rank of Dark Jedi Knight. If the member in question is not in a position to train members (including, but not limited to, being on the Dark Council), there must be at least a comparable amount of activity relating to the training of others.

Notes

  • For the purposes of counting competitions, each event in a feud or war counts as one competition. The rule of thumb is that if you can get a crescent or a novae for it then it counts as a competition.
  • If you are already in a leadership position within your Clan and are responsible for running competitions and therefore cannot participate in as many, running competitions will suffice to cover the participation in a competition requirements for these promotion requirements. Leaders, please explain this to me in the promotion request.
  • If you are engaging in other activities not mentioned in the above requirements (such as assisting your leader with leadership tasks or working on Clan-improvement tasks) you may be rewarded for your work with a merit medal but such activities are not allowed as substitutes for the requirements above.
  • Shadow Academy course usage cannot be "double-dipped" except for those courses that are also used in separate requirements. Dark Brotherhood Basics may only be used once for the Novice promotion.
  • When a promotion requirement states a minimum time or a Master At Arms assigned task, it is possible to waive the required time. Instead, those responsible for the promotion can contact the Master At Arms, and he will decide on an additional task instead. The task in question can be anything, and the difficulty depends on the rank, and the time left. This will only be assigned when all other requirements for that promotion have been completed.
