Rem Bachtan was a former Dlarit Navy Lieutenant, now serving as Captain of the Vibre-class Assault Cruiser Turmoil under the Warhost Fleet since 33 ABY.
Early History
Rem Bachtan was the son of Senator Chelo from Gerrard V, a Core World. After the Senate was dissolved his father decided to start a family on Coruscant and that is where he was raised. He was surrounded by the Empire's influence for most of his younger years and was indoctrinated into its beliefs and ways of life. He did not care much for politics unlike his father as Rem was more caught up with the Imperial Navy and it's grandeur. Although this disappointed Senator Chelo, he allowed his son to indulge in his passion knowing full well that most childhood fantasies died at a later age when things became more realistic. As
This prediction of his father came true, when the Empire was chased away from Coruscant. His family stayed behind and his interest and work towards joining it's great navy had faded. In laet 19 ABY but the Dlarit Corporation had set up an office to further their interests and it was here that the young Rem was recruited and began his training immideatly. Whilst he did not stand out amongst his peers in strength or endurance, it was noticed that the young human had a keen mind for tactics and a brilliant mind to implement those tactics. Easily making friends, he did not give much thought as to how his peers viewed him. Upon completing his basic training in early 20 ABY he was given his first commission at the age of 19.
Becoming a Leader
He started out in the heavy assault squadron designated Cerberus, an Assault Gunboat unit. Although green at the time, Rem had proven himself capable of handling situations where many others would have panicked and broken down. Rem saved his squadron multiple times from an inept Commander throughout the years of 21 ABY to 24 ABY. His quick thinking and advanced tactics proved extremely useful, but he always gave credit to the Commander when they pulled through. Rem had no desire to stand in the spotlights and gain unwanted attention. All he ever wanted was to survive another day alongside his friends. The Cerberus unit gave him purpose in life, and he gave it everything he had to keep his fellow crew members from dying unnecessary deaths. It became quite clear though who their true leader was throughout these conflicts, and one unfortunate day when the acting Commander had flown themselves into an ambush they once again had to turn to Rem to get them out of the situation. However, this time they had run into a trap that wouldn't open its jaws easily.
During a routine patrol in an abandoned mining system, they were ambushed by pirates which had been tracking the Assault Gunboat unit for weeks. Heavy fighting ensued between the Cerberus squadron and the bandits, but it quickly became clear that they were outnumbered and outgunned. Taking heavy damage and with shields on their ship dropping dangerously low, their acting Commander panicked and locked himself in his quarters. Knowing he was a lost cause, the crew members turned to Rem and awaited his orders.
As he assessed the situation, he commanded the remaining Gunboats to form a pincer attack maneuver, punching through the line of bandit ships and making their escape. Despite having lost over half the ships during the entire ordeal, Rem was lauded as a hero. On their way back to Coruscant they were debriefed through a special emergency conference. As it became clear how much Rem had actually done to save the unit on numerous occasions the past few years, Dlarit immediately promoted him to the official position of Squadron Commander of the Cerberus Gunboat unit in late 24 ABY. Although Rem had not wanted the position at first, he proved to be the best thing that had happened to the unit in a very long time. As it became clear that Rem Bachtan was a solid Commander, the people who wanted to transfer to his squadron increased tenfold. Having to take the responsibility of adding members to his crew, Rem began to select people based on specific strengths, eventually forming a team that trusted each other, would fight for each other and turned into one of Dlarit's assault squadrons.
VAC Turmoil
The next two years were spent on rebuilding the reputation of the Cerberus unit. Howver, he was approached by a high ranking Dlarit officer in who offered him a place aboard the VAC Turmoil in 26 ABY. Having great need of a tactician and quick thinking skills such as those of Rem Bachtan, Rem agreed to join the crew of the Turmoil under the condition that should he want to return to his old unit, he could do so whenever he wanted to.
As he was transferred to the Turmoil which resided in the Orian System, life became quite easy. There was little conflict and the Dlarit Corporation had a strong hold in the system. He was able to visit his old unit quite often, and although he missed them at times, his life on the Turmoil was an easy one without the stresses of leadership.
Things went well for the first six years, having been promoted to Lieutenant during these years. It was also during this time that Dlarit had begun to lose its grip on the system, and was being pushed back by a new organization called the Orian Assembly. Bachtan thought little of the situation though as his crew was not immediately affected by these small skirmishes. Though Rem was not totally oblivious to what was happening, he felt that he could not change what was happening by himself, and it did not seem as if the Captain of the Turmoil felt the urge to defend what was being taken from Dlarit.
In 33 ABY when the Dlarit Corporation collapsed and was pushed out to the fringes of the Orian System, the Captain of the Turmoil revealed that they were not in fact agents for the Dlarit Corporation, but owed their allegiance to the Warhost Fleet. This surprised Bachtan but did not phase his allegiance to the crew or the ship. He cared not for which side they fought for, so long as they did not wage needless wars or suffer unnecessary casualties. Seeing the goodness in Rem Bachtan, the former Captain of the VAC Turmoil handed in his resignation and recommended the Lieutenant to be promoted to Captain of the Turmoil.
After the Warhost Fleet checked his credentials and service records, they unanimously agreed with the former Captain, and Rem was once again thrust into a position he did not ask for, yet agreed to take it for fear of being led by someone not ready to take responsibility for his new family.
The Dominion
In late 33 ABY The Dominion invaded the Orian System and attacked using ferocious and unfamiliar offensive tactics. Bachtan faced an enemy for the first time which he had no answer for. As they took heavy casualties and only barely managed to beat back the invaders, he realized that he was dealing with an enemy that adapted far faster than he was used to, forcing him to rethink and reevaluate his strategies. As a counter attack was prepared in mid 34 ABY on one of The Dominion's homeworlds, Rem was ordered to stay behind in the Orian System and defend it should the main force fail in their assault on Agua'tah. Alongside the VSDII Covenant, the VAC Turmoil remained behind and acted as a defending force. Whilst this was a great relief for Bachtan, it also felt as if he had failed his superiors, not being able to push back their enemies on time when they had first attacked. Doubling his efforts once again, Rem Bachtan not only wants to prove to the Navy that he is of great value, but that he can also turn the enemies own tactics against them.
