“The Flesh is Weak, The Machine is Tempermental…”
- Ophelia Delacroix 37 ABY
Ophelia is a Mandalorian, a Member of the Death Watch and a Mercenary of Clan Tarentum and currently serving within House Mortis and the Battleteam Order of the Trident. She is mad with advanced cybernetic replacements, cold, brutal and efficient she gets the job done without a care for who or what gets in her way.
Character History
Early Life and the Death Watch
Born, as most are, Ophelia made her way into the world upon Mandalore and was raised as most children are with love, affection and a blaster in her hand. Her father was a warrior who served within the Mandalorian army during the time of the Clone wars. Her mother was herself trained in the art of war but had retired a year or so before Ophelia’s birth in order to ready herself and husband for the raising of her family and the next generation of Mandalorians.
Unbeknownst to her mother, however, her Father had been working with the rebel Mandalorian group the Death watch and was secretly feeding them back information that allowed Death watch to hit strategic targets against the True Mandalorians and those they deemed enemies. When Ophelia was in her sixth year her father’s treachery was discovered and a domestic assault took place resulting in the death of her mother and her being taken away by her father to the folds of the Death Watch and the upbringing that brought with it. She hated her father for what he had done for many years but after time, she allowed that hatred to meet with the doctrines of the Death Watch and allowed herself to grow into a troubled and fucked up young adult.
By her eighteen birthday and with the blessing of her Clan she was permitted to temporarily leave them to join the Imperial Academy where she would put her skills to the test and earn her place in the galaxy during the Galactic civil war and forge herself in the fires of combat.
Imperial Service
During her time in the Imperials, her skills were noted and she was sub-sequentially moved to train as a member of the Imperial Security Bureau. Her loyalty to the cause, ruthlessness in her pursuits and ability to get shit done set her up as a prime candidate and she left the academy as a proud member of ISB. During her service to the Empire, she met an old war veteran by the name of Etah D’Tana and formed a bond with him learning as much as she could from him whilst also carrying out her duties to the Empire and protecting from internal threats alongside members of the Storm Corps. She once had the honour and privilege of working alongside the 501st and seeing Darth Vader in person as he walked past, but there was something about him that set her on edge that made her hunger be more than she was. She knew she would never rise to the level of power he held due to his mastery of the Force but she also knew she had other talents which she would use to set her apart and she would often put in requests to take part in missions to hunt down and exterminate any mention of found Jedi, however, each request was denied and she was assigned to other tasks.
This only made her hunger grow and she worked harder than ever to achieve more and more. As the years passed she found herself elevated in ranks and soon found herself at the rank of Major and in command of a small team though again even with her new position she was still denied missions that allowed her to take part in Jedi hunts. Her only solace was the training Etah passed onto her which allowed her to grow in her martial skills and her brutality became near legendary to all those that served under her that by the time she was moved onto a new station she became known as the Ice Queen.
She soon found herself more and more isolated from her colleagues and whispers and rumours would follow her. More often than not she found herself in the training ranges where one day she accidentally interrupted a training drill of new Flame troopers curious she approached and requested permission to use one of the flamethrowers at hand. The drill instructor agreed straight away more for fear of her wrath than anything else and she soon found herself caressing the loving warmth of the flamer as streams of fire lapped away in front of her. Satisfied but not forgetting she left the training area but would return several more times to play with her new toys.
In 4ABY, disillusioned with the Empire after its defeat at the hands of the rebellion at Yavin, she was approached by Etah and offered a place amongst his new group calling themselves the Werewolves. A curious name to her as she had never heard of such creatures but fed up of getting nowhere and the current stagnation and the beginning of the Imperial Forces being scattered she readily agreed and within hours had slipped away from Coruscant.
Imperial Werewolves Era
To Be written.
Death Watch Era
After the disbanding of the Werewolves, she went home, or as close as home as she could get and returned to her clan and the embrace of the Death Watch. Not exactly welcomed with open arms she soon learned of her father’s death and that given he was not there to vouch for her she was to earn her place within them again. Content to do just that she began partaking in raiding missions where she was given a simple blaster and limited armour to proof she had what it took to adhere to the way of the Mandalorians and hadn’t been too corrupted by the Empires weakness. Within a year, she had made a name for herself again and was finally allowed to bear full arms. Though the Death Watch was in major decline they still were hated by those claiming to be True Mandalorians and more often than not they would find themselves operating less like the Death Watch once was and more like underworld thugs taking jobs for the highest paying clients something which began to Irk and annoy Ophelia as she had returned to their fold to be a warrior, not someone’s patsy and grunt.
Issues arose when annoyed at being underpaid Ophelia grabbed a blaster rifle from one of the client’s guards and beat him to death with it forcing her comrades to gun down the client and his remaining guards less Ophelia be slain. She was reprimanded and informed that any further issues would result in her expulsion and her name dishonoured for all time to come. Pissed off but not stupid Ophelia relented and apologised but not before realising there was nothing left of what she once stood for and she had truly become just another underworld thug for hire.
Her big break came in 35 ABY where she received a mysterious job that required her skills and yet had not come from any known associates. Curious she set out on her own to discover what was needed and soon found herself embroiled in a plot which tested every part of her metal, being and self-preservation. She had found herself thrust into the machinations of the Sith and not just any Sith but those of Clan Tarentum, the Clan of Death.
Clan Tarentum Era
The mission she was a part of was a success and for her work, she was offered a rather large sum of credits, more than she had seen in a lifetime even when working for the Imperials and she knew she could retire and simply live out her life till she expired but she refused. She requested something more and was surprised to find her request granted and she thus became an associate of the Sith Clan and served within its military forces as a gun for hire proving herself on multiple occasions and soon even becoming reunited with Etah. Her skills were tested, she even once partook in a mission to hunt a Jedi which ended in a success and she found she wanted more and more. With the money, she earned she picked up weapons and armour she never thought she could lay her hands on and even went as far as acquiring a flamethrower to use as her primary weapon.
She became known as Pyro she amused her given her previous nickname of the Ice Queen and found herself bouncing from planet to planet and conflict to conflict when the great Wars occurred and the One Sith started causing chaos but she was always in the background and never quite managed to hit that light which set her apart from the others, never quite managed to be more than just another faceless grunt fighting alongside her Sith masters…and she hated it.
Then something she never expected happened. She died. An assault upon one of the One Sith’s bases had her in the thick of things clearing rooms with jets of white hot fire, laughing as the enemy soldiers burned alive and sparks flew around her. Upon clearing one room of weak resistance her Commanding Officer, Etah, strolled past her not paying her a second glance. As he neared the other side of the room a shadow dropped down behind him and the familiar click hiss of a lightsaber ignited readily to strike at his back. Ophelia was upon the One Sith in seconds and grabbed him by the back of the head and proceeded to pile drive him down enough to throw him off balance. Angered her aggressor turned upon her and they scuffled in hand to hand combat with the younger fighter gaining the advantage. She managed to get in several good blows and even beat him down to his knees but as he rose she felt a searing pain rush through her midriff as she realised his saber had skewered her however as she fell she grabbed him by the neck and leaned forward and bit, ripping back and feeling the hot gush of blood seep down her throat as she and the enemy collapsed in a pile upon the floor.
She awoke some time later confused, disorientated and a little bewildered to where she was or how he got there. Something didn’t feel right and the room she was in was strange and almost archaic in design. She felt wrong, given that she knew she had just died she didn’t know how else to describe it and as she looked down at her hands she noticed the wrinkles of age had vanished and then she noticed they weren’t her hands. She freaked out and began probing her body with the hands that weren’t hers and found things that didn’t feel right, she looked to her left and found a bowl of water and as she pushed herself off whatever she was sitting on she found her legs give way under her and the world span and she met the floor with a hard thump and darkness consumed her again.
She awoke later in a different room this time in a med bay surrounded by instruments and machines. She took a deep breath and looked down and noticed she still didn’t look right or feel right and then he entered the room. He was…no she forgot his name, but she knew he was one of the elder Tarentum Sith and he sat upon her bed next to her and explained she had been brought back and placed within a new vassal for her to continue serving the clan. She was, in fact, more than what she was giving that she had beaten death, but she was never who she once was and never would be again. It was all too much and something in her head or whoever’s head snapped and from then on the monster that she once was as a child and teenager in the Death Watch resurfaced and she became quite mad.
Things became different about her for one she remembered the sensation of the taste of blood and flesh within her mouth and wanted it again, more…her drive and hunger often found poking at the charred meat of the corpses she engulfed in flame. For another she revelled in the misery and agony she caused as soldiers and enemies ran in search of water or tried to drop and roll as the fires engulfed them. But worse than all that she wasn’t quite exactly skilled as she was in some of the things she once knew well and others she knew better than she ever had and some she had never had before but knew now.
This issue of muddled memories came to the fore when she attempted to use a flamer in the training yard and managed to somehow mix solid and liquid fuel resulting in an explosion which engulfed her and had her almost killed again as the flamed danced across the left side of her body from head to toe. The damaged was so severe and excessive they had to remove the majority of her left side and replace it with cybernetics. She adjusted, she learnt to live with them and use them at times abuse them. She also learnt to care for them herself so she was able to make any minor repairs to them in the field.
Over the years, she began building a reputation and ascended to the rank of EQ1 something a Non-force user hadn’t done before within the Clan. She held this honour in high regard and knew it was only going to improve from here on in. That Death followed her and fire licked her boots. A Phoenix reborn from the Inferno’s ashes ready to bring the flames of wrath upon her foes.
Characteristics
Appearance
At first glance Ophelia appears an any normal human would, normal amount of appendages, two legs, two arms, two eyes and whatever else comes with the standard human package. Her hair cascades down her back flowing with multiple colours and it curls down past her right hazel eye and resting just above her chin.
She holds herself with contempt, her pose threatening and uninviting. An uneasy presence emanates from her and you certainly would not wish to approach her for a hug or any bodily contact at that. Mainly due to the reason she stands different from the main human template.
Due to what can only be described as an ‘accident’ the entire left side of Ophelia, leg, arm, side, and parts of her face have been replaced by cybernetic replacements. Going by her nature she has decided to not cover them with synthflesh, in fact, the simple fact she can see the replacements daily drives her anger and contempt and heighten her position within the Brotherhood. The cybernetics are custom made for Ophelia; Ancient script flows across the parts and the hand and foot both end in crafted five claws instead of normal fingers and toes.
Her dress style is whatever she sees fit. She happily wears anything that will show off her cybernetics as she is well aware of the fear some close-minded mongrels have for those who have undergone cybernetic surgery, be it purposely or not. Though as it stands her current Brotherhood attire generally involves slit dresses, evening gowns, high boots, long gloves and anything else that gives her an air of refinement. Though no matter how much finery you slap on a monster it is still a monster.
Fighting Style
Fire, fire burns all! She discovered a love for fire and flamers when she was still a member of the ISB and this only heightened as she rejoined the Death Watch and then up with Tarentum before and after her death. She is also competent in explosives, hand to hand and getting things done with her dual blasters as a backup. She's prone to constant movement, using cover to back her up or getting in close and unleashing pain upon those foolish enough to stand against her.
Personality
Uncaring, cold, brutal. Three words to use Ophelia which wouldn't even begin to describe exactly what she is like. She has dedicated herself to being a weapon, getting the job done and killing as much as she can as she does. She wades into combat like a butcher and comes out dressed head to toe in whatever matter came off the opponent.
She has a few psychological problems, the main one being her tendency to devour flesh. She also happily sacrifices those under her if they get in her way, as there to her is nothing more important than herself and the mission. Due to the trauma she underwent with the cybernetic replacements, she finds herself less than human now and this enrages her it is, for this reason, she leaves the metal uncovered so as to remind her of the weakness and drive her into greater frenzies.
She is curt, she hates small talk and is not one for jokes. She gets annoyed if someone attempts to pull her into any form of idle chit chat and is more than happy to just keep her mouth shut and stare someone down till they shut up. She lords over the slaves, house and clan military forces like a wild animal that’s only being held back by a piece of string and she adores seeing the revulsion and fear in their eyes as they skirt around her.
