The Indefatigable was a Quasar Fire-class bulk cruiser serving as part of the First Mobile Fleet in Clan Plagueis' Ascendant Fleet.
History
Purchased during the era in which the Ascendant fleet was being restructured following substantial losses, the Indefatigable was purchased and added to Task Force Cresh. Lacking the presence of a Star Destroyer or large fighter carrying warship, it offered a means to field multiple starfighter squadrons alongside the smaller cruisers and corvettes of the group. Since its purchase, the ship has served in multiple engagements against the various enemies of Clan Plagueis and has remained an effective asset across various battlefields. It was later reassigned to the First Mobile Fleet. It served Clan Plagueis loyally in the Ascendant Fleet for years. However, in 40 ABY, during the Fifteenth Great Jedi War, it was destroyed by The Children of Mortis during their attack on Aliso.
Characteristics
Effectively a large hanger with engines, the Quasar Fire-class bulk cruiser - also known as the Quasar Fire-class cruiser-carrier - is a three-hundred-and-forty meter long frigate that was originally conceived as a freighter early into its design phase. This was later changed to a carrier, with its four cargo bays being redesigned in order to serve as repair and refueling stations. To this end, it is a highly effective launching platform for large numbers of starfighters, and more than capable of housing four full squadrons at any given time. Requiring a crew of only one-hundred-and-seventy-five to operate the cruiser, with room for additional eighty-five passengers - it requires relatively little manpower to fully crew the vessel. The ship is also fitted with two tractor beam generators, allowing it to retrieve and remove downed allied fighters.
The Quasar Fire's primary shortcomings stem from the fact it was never intended to enter direct combat, and its retrofitted design. The ship lacks the ability to house any cargo beyond its complement of fighters, and is extremely vulnerable to enemy attacks. With light shielding and very little armour, it lacks even point-defence systems to counter starfighter attacks, and is wholly reliant either on its squadrons or staying out of the fight entirely to remain combat effective. These shortcomings make its only armament, two heavy dual turbolaser turrets effectively useless in most circumstances, as it is outgunned by ships less than half of its size. While in a larger battlegroup or full support it remains a useful fleet asset, alone it is extremely vulnerable to enemy action.
Role
The Indefatigable serves as a primary launching platform in the First Mobile Fleet, allowing the battle group to launch and house a large number of fighters. Leaving the heavy fighting to the more heavily armed warships, its role is to rearm, repair, and refuel, fighters during and between engagements. Thanks to this presence, it means that they can count on a substantial level of starfighter support in any engagement.
