The entire assembly was quiet as he spoke, not even the baby cried, “I have only one wish… to get out of this accursed sink hole. So it’s all very simple. Vote for me, and the baby lives.” He was voted for almost unanimously, excepting only his father who was foaming at the mouth in rage at the embarrassment his son had bestowed upon what was left of the family. | | He stole away from his home in the middle of the night and kidnapped a recently born baby from his mother’s best friend, leaving a note that the baby would be returned the next day in the settlement square, if his demands were met. Character History
Childhood
Dariik was born in 5 ABY on Selen to a fairly poor family on a very small island. He lived in a small hovel just off the shore of the ocean; the island was a fairly short distance from Estle City. Dariik had one brother named Calvin, who was two years younger than him, as well as his father and mother. Calvin’s father was a fisherman and farmer; his mother helped out with their farm, and took care of the home. Calvin lived fairly quietly for most of the beginning of his life; however his parents were very troubled. His father was a very cruel and harsh man who beat him through most of his childhood. He was also diseased, having seizures without cause or reason, though he refused to receive medical attention.
As for his brother, he loved him. They had empathy for each other, understanding, and a long relationship of knowing, but Dariik had no ambition in his life, other than to get away from his father. During his younger years, Dariik had no thoughts of running away or doing something about his predicament, but as he became older, into his teenage years, he began to hate his father with a passion. He grew a longing to get away from his father, and thought of only one thing more. Dariik was often known for being caught in dark soliloquy.
Growing Up
Dariik had always seen his mother as a kind and loving woman who had been trapped by his tyrannical father into a loveless marriage, even though she was always devoted, caring, and sometimes defensive of him. Dariik had a deep relationship with his mother, he told her easily all his faults, wants, and feelings; he truly loved her. She died when he was just turning thirteen. After her death, any hope for Dariik being the caring, loving person he was around his mother left him. He became harsh, and cruel, just as his father. Only to his brother did he show kindness anymore, but Calvin had not gone without noticing the difference in his brother.
Nonetheless, Dariik helped his family survive and in turn his father made sure that he had an education in the art of war, and especially in flight tactics. Dariik was considered brilliant by the time he had finished the education available to him by all. Dariik had studied many accounts of history of the universe, and learned several languages to a near native degree.
The island was so small that there was only one person conscripted every other year. They were in a long chain of islands that were mostly as small, which had an agreement with the Dark Jedi to give up a certain number of people each year from every island in return that the Dark Jedi wouldn’t step foot on the land of the islands. It was an agreement that had benefits for both sides, but required the islands to pick who from among them would go. It was during his twenty-first birthday, when his brother married and left the house, that he realized he finally had a small chance of being able to get away from his overbearing father, without risking backlash to his brother, by enlisting in the military, unfortunately there were two other people on the island who were wanting to do the same, two much stronger and larger opponents. Dariik devised a plan the night before the settlement was to meet, to agree who should go, and set it into motion.
To Arcona!
He stole away from his home in the middle of the night and kidnapped a recently born baby from his mother’s best friend, leaving a note that the baby would be returned the next day in the settlement square, if his demands were met. The people of the island quickly found out what had happened to the woman’s baby shortly before they met at the square. All the suitable boys who wanted to enter the Clan Arcona military sat in five of ten hard flat chairs. Dariik was sitting among the five holding the baby in his right arm, a small dagger he had stolen in is left hand.
Dariik quickly left, and joined the Arcona fleet. Impressed with his extensive knowledge, his superiors allowed him to rise over the course of one year, from a mere gunner to the rank of assistant navigator aboard the Arcona flagship ISDII Eye of the Abyss II. During the year 27 ABY, when the MJHC Last Light was given to Arcona, Dariik was promoted to Navigation Officer aboard the vessel. In 37 ABY, he was promoted again, to Commanding Officer.
