The Crimson Ember was established by the former Acclivis Draco Quaestor Mune Metsukai Isradia, during the Seventh Great Jedi War. It was formed to give the Obelisks formal training for the battle that was sure to come.
Shortly before the Seventh Great Jedi War began, Mune Metsukai Isradia called together his Summit and they briefly discussed the condition of the house, and how each order were to be utilized in the imminent war. It came up that the Obelisks had no real ‘leader’ within the House; no one who was an experienced Obelisk put into a position to help the newer comrades. This was a problem, the Obelisks were the soldier class of the brotherhood, and needed to be battle ready when the time came. It was decided that a battle team for the order should be built. The matter of who should lead it was troublesome. It finally fell to Korbin to lead it.
Korbin, while unsteady at first, rose to fulfill his position with brilliant precision. He would become a leader that could lead his subordinates with military accuracy. During The Seventh Great Jedi War, the Crimson Ember would fight with the tenacity of a frenzied rancor. No one would say they won the war single handedly, but no one would say that they didn’t deliver when duty called.
Unfortunately, the Battle Team closed soon after the war ended. Many believe it was because the team had served its purpose in the war and was no longer needed. Wrong. The Crimson Ember had behaved admirably in the war. So why close it?

* Initiation
Gaining the opportunity to join was not difficult. Some members were those who asked to join, while others were picked. If you were to request the chance to be initiated, then you would make a good decision. Most of the people who were handpicked were either exceptionally powerful or raw recruits with large potential, but didn’t know what a battle team was. It was the test that proved a bit more challenging.
No one knows how the initiations were conducted, for this was a secret. And as no one who was in The Crimson Ember still walks the halls of Acclivis Draco, fact is hard to come by. It is known, however, that prospects had to ‘walk the path of fire’ to join the ranks. There are many theories as to what this could have meant, but one stands above most others and is more widely believed. It is well known that the Obelisks were exceptionally skilled at physical augmentation through the force. It is believed by many that the phrase ‘walk the path of fire’ means literally to walk on fire by channeling the force to your feet to harden them, thereby nullifying the burns. It would be truly a difficult feat for many lower ranked Journeymen, and even a skilled Knight might find it a challenge.
To be initiated, one had to be a proven warrior. Many believed that meant that one had to be of high rank to join. Wrong. It means you have to be of use. Even the lowliest ant has its duty in the colony. This holds true for the Crimson Ember. It is known that many journeymen were members. It just meant you have to be able to perform when duty calls.

* Origin
The origin of the name Crimson Ember is closely tied to the initiation ritual. Whichever came first is irrelevant. Korbin wanted a group of fiery warriors that could take the worst that battle could throw at them. The term ‘fiery’ was the key element he used in naming the team. It was widely accepted and gave the team a pseudo motto to fight by.

* Closing of the Crimson Ember
The battle team tremendously exceeded all expectation in the field of battle. They hardly met an enemy without loss. But, needless to say, losses did come. The House was closed soon after the War ended. There is speculation that supported by little fact that the team was disbanded unceremoniously. This is not true.
The team had taken severe casualties throughout the war. While no single battle did real significant damage to the Crimson Ember’s rank, the casualties that did occur in battle piled up to be an almost insurmountable amount to recover from. By war’s end, very few Obelisks remained. But the battle team persevered. They were sent on a rescue mission to Endor, where they were violently ambushed. The details aren’t clear, but it is certain they were hired mercenaries. Some (those who actually knew about the attack) speculate that the mercenaries were hired by the Yuuzhan Vong. This was never proven, and therefore was discarded as theory and paranoia. The team was decimated; not a single member survived. It was, however, considered strange that the team was able to be caught completely by surprise. With so many dark Jedi, one would think that they would have sensed the attack. It is believed that force users were present in the mercenary ranks, but this is only speculation. This information was deemed classified, which gave rise to the belief that the Crimson Ember was closed for the fact that it had served its purpose in the war, and was no longer needed.
