Of course at home things were the same. She was born a Zelosian so the idea of not being surrounded by plants and learning how things work was foreign to her. She’d spend hours carefully crafting the perfect little hybrids to display to her school classes and always managed to win. Of course being the flower girl had it’s disadvantages but she never truly bothered about things that were said or remarks that were made. She was happy in her own world and happiness was all that mattered to her. By the time she was ten she had won first place in three science fairs and was generally considered the geek and know it all.

Sarana worked for what she earned and everyone saw it. Jealously was rife as the children of the Warhost all vied for prestige and to make a name for themselves, making their parents proud was a big thing and Sarana simply did it without trying. It made the other children mad and more than once she had to be returned home after some of the other girls decided she needed a lesson taught to her. Pain she found was relative to the person having it inflicted upon them and she soon found that if she ignored it it didn’t phase her, after all she had her books and her plants and nothing else relaly mattered.

She finished school top of her class, as was expected, and moved onto the medical program. She spent years delving into the mysteries of biology, physiology and the mind and loved it. She took up horticulture as a business to help her pay her way and her parents, being stubborn, refused to help her more than providing her with a place to live. She didn’t mind she always believed in the principle of make what you earn and do it well. It was however in school that she started developing an addiction to sugar. Now sugar to Zelosians is the same as alcohol to most other species, it gets them drunk and while this isn’t much of a problem usually she began overdoing it. Most saw it as a youngster out enjoying their freedom but in truth it was her way of simply escaping the constant endless work she put herself under.

Her addiction lasted through medical school and it wasn’t truly picked up on until one day she turned up for an exam blind drunk. She made a scene, got kicked out of the exam and was told to get help. She failed the year and luckily with enough pull she managed to get the chance to sit it again, but only once she was confirmed sober. Her parents did the one thing they knew would work. They locked her in a room and only gave her access to the essentials. She was forced to go cold turkey and she screamed. The addiction was a pain to get over and she often found herself vomiting, pleading, fighting, screaming and doing everything in her power to get what she want. it broke her parents hearts but they knew it would work, it had to work otherwise everything she had achieved in life would be for nothing.

It took her four month of her life to go clean, four months of pain that she never wanted to feel again. She still can’t truly work around pure sugar without getting slight shakes so she’s always supported by her friends and colleagues who know her past and always will be. She returned to medical school a year and a half later and finished her year. Graduating with honours and becoming a full Doctor of Biology. She began to branch out her qualifications and each year took on more research until she had enough fancy titles and areas under her belt she began to earn a reputation as the go to doctor for most things.

She wasn’t entirely happy with working in the labs anymore though, her parents passed when she was twenty five so they seemed different to what she was used to. Not content with her lot in life she applied to be part of the Navy as a science officer with the hopes that she could travel, experience new worlds and generally do something rather than sitting around the labs staring at microorganisms. She was accepted and was quickly assigned to one of the Warhosts scouting vessels. Her job was to simply ensure any planets, or new areas discovered she would go down and ensure it was safe for the numerous species of the Warhost to thrive in without damage. She found it fascinating as she waded through ruins, jungles and all other matters of wild and mysterious places. She even once had the chance to explore a newly discovered temple and she loved every moment of it. She paid special attention to the mutations on the plant life from the dark side energies of the temple and found it sad that such beautiful things could be corrupted so easily.

Her next major assignment was with the outbreak of the 11th Great Jedi War. Her duties as a scientist were put on hold as she was called in for her medical expertise. She had never seen anything quite like it as young soldiers lay upon operating tables. The dead lay around her, massacred like nerfs as they thought to save their clan. The horrors she saw those days forever changed her opinion about War and the glory of it. There was no glory in it and she never wanted to experience it again. She was days from leaving when she met a man who would forever come to change her outlook on life.

Sanguinius was a kind man, a pleasant man and generally seemed to care about the doctor's thoughts on war and how things she was seeing affected her. He spoke to her about the light, about how war was sometimes a necessary evil but it should never be glorified. When Pravus ascended and began his war on undesirables he promised he would keep her safe after the War was done. He did. He transferred her across to the MJHC Retribution and she was appointed Chief Medical Officer and Scientist. A dual responsibility position but she took to it like a fish to water and she loved working with the crew. They were all Sanguinius’s people so she knew they could be trusted not to laugh at her concerns or ideals. In fact she met a young man about her age that she began to develop feelings for, and he her in return.

Of course the issues arose when the refugees from Hosnia Prime arrived and the crew of the ship got a makeover to make way for the aliens and undesirables who would be targeted by Pravus’s mad schemes. Her secret affair was split apart as her suitor was transferred away but this did allow her to be open with the relationship so there was some small blessing in disguise. She rarely got to see him however and her heart broke each day she wasn’t able to wake up near him. She persevered as she always did and decided this was her home and if she wanted to have everything again then she would earn it.

This day and age she works most of her time behind a desk aboard the Retribution coordinating medical teams, scientists and at times even being the ship's psychologist. It’s a rush and a thrill and nothing quite has replaced the feeling of being in control of her own life. Of course the ship has taken on subtle changes with her presence. Plants line hallways, a small plot plant sits upon the Captain's desk and even one sits on one of the command consoles of the ship's bridge. The crewman whose it was had to remove it quickly due to regulations but the ship has certainly felt more alive since Sarana made it her home. Sanguinius still gets a beautiful plant every year on his birthday too.

Sarana Kellick is the current Science Officer of the MJHC Retribution of House Marka Ragnos.

Character History

Sarana Kellick was a career scientist. In fact as long as she could remember all she has ever wanted to do and ever has done is science and it’s all she loves. Giving the fact her parents were both members of the Dlarit forces probably had everything to do with it and growing up all she can remember was browsing over books on medicine, plant life and how things work. She would follow her parents around the labs they worked in constantly and enjoyed every miniute of it. By the time she was seven she had already sat in on several operations and no one bothered her. She learnt and as time went by she began to see the medical and science labs as just extensions of her home.

Jealousy was rife as the children of the Warhost all vied for prestige and to make a name for themselves, making their parents proud was a big thing and Sarana simply did it without trying. It made the other children mad and more than once she had to be returned home after some of the other girls decided she needed a lesson taught to her.
