"A beautiful place that shows the true serenity of New Tython"
Ji

Located within the Owyhyee continent, the It’kla Falls is about an hour’s hike from the capital city of New Tython, Menat Ombo. It is a 141 meter waterfall on the Iwu River and the third highest in the mountain region.

Discovery

It’kla Falls was discovered in 330 BBY by Thenua, one of the great chieftains of the Iwu Zawag tribe. He was so impressed by the waterfall that he named it sacred ground in hope to keep it safe throughout time. It was then named after his daughter, It’kla, as he believed it resembled her beauty as a young female Harakoan.

Formation

It’kla Falls owes it foundation to the deposits of volcanic rock in the Owyhyee volcanic field that were placed down in the wide valley of Iwu River. After many years of floods, layers of volcanic rock, an upright cliff was formed. The volcanic eruptions shaped the region and gave it its remarkable morphologic features.

Access and trails

  • It’kla Canyon is about an hour’s hike from Menat Ombo, it follows the Iwu River to the falls and then around the rim of the canyon. It overlooks the valley and also the circular bowl created by the waterfall and years of evolution.
  • Iwu trail is a second path that can be used to see the falls, although a longer hike, it brings you to the bottom of the natural beauty of It’kla Falls. The trail has somewhat deteriorated over the years but is worth the effort as you come to see the bottom of the waterfall.

Winter viewing

Although there is easy access in the summer, visiting the falls in the winter is worthwhile due to the formations of an ice cone that stands nearly 50 meters tall. The cone is formed yearly and collapses during spring time. The trails are usual clear; however the mountain ranges weather has known to be wild during the winter months on New Tython.
