Mandalorian Soldier -- Fade Initiative
History
- "Nobody believed I had courage. Not even me...then you came along."
- ― Tybalt
Tybalt was born on Selen as a second generation Togorian affiliated with the Erinos Mandalorian Clan. From the time he was big enough to hold a weapon Tybalt was integrated into the Clan and trained to be a front line warrior. Because of the small number of Togorians, he grew up side by side with the human and near human children, causing him to adopt their mannerisms and speech patterns. Tybalt has always been more Mandalorian than Togorian.
From a very young age Tybalt demonstrated an above average intellect and affinity for learning how things work. Instead of practicing his hand to hand combat, he would spend time taking apart anything he could get his hands on: droids, weapons, generators, and engines. This sometimes got him into trouble and earned him a certain measure of disapproval from his fellow Togorians. The Clan Elders recognized his growing talent and allowed him to apprentice with the Clan Armorers and starship engineers even if it was out of character for a Togorian.
Tybalt still wanted to prove himself as a capable warrior so he joined a squad as a heavy weapons specialist, leveraging his raw strength to carry larger weapons and more ammunition than his human and near human counter-parts could. He had some early success and basked in the approval of his blood family and fellow warriors.
Tybalt’s success as a front line warrior was short lived as he was severely injured in an engagement with Ordo and Jedi forces during the initial engagement of the Tenth Great Jedi War. Most of his squad was killed in the skirmish that injured him. He was transported off world to the Arcona fleet for recovery, but did not see any further action in the war.
The Togorian’s recovery after the war was slow going. After spending the better part of a month in a bacta tank, he was cleared for light duty. Tybalt returned to his prior work as one of the Clan armorers. He never talked openly about it, but the whole experience was traumatizing for him. He continued to work in a supporting role, while actively avoiding any and all front line assignments.
Tybalt travelled with the Erinos Clan during the Horizons incident and the initial phases of the Dark Crusade. He was selected to remain as part of a rear-guard garrison on the planet Rhelg following Arcona’s victory there. It was on Rhelg that he met the mandalorian mercenary turned Arconan, Luna Okami, who was assigned to the garrison as medical and survival support due to her extensive knowledge of cold weather environments.
Luna eventually became deputy garrison commander and quickly noticed Tybalt’s aversion to front line duty. In an uncharacteristically gentle way, Luna slowly pushed Tybalt to go on patrols outside the garrison until he conquered his fear and residual demons from New Tython. Tybalt felt an intense loyalty for the human because she believed in him when everyone else had written him off as a wonky coward. He stayed with Luna throughout their assignment at the Rhelg garrison and followed when Luna was recalled to Selen to undergo Force training.
Tybalt volunteered for the Fade initiative as soon as Luna completed her formal Force training and became eligible to receive a Fade as a full-fledged Arconan Dark Jedi. He is never far from her side, sworn to protect her with his very life. For her part, Luna is proud of the recovery Tybalt has made and his willingness to accompany her into dangerous missions without hesitation.
Physical Description
- "He’s a giant cat wearing armor for crying out loud, you literally can’t miss him."
- ― Luna giving a description of Tybalt
Tybalt is somewhat small for a Togorian, but at 2.5 meters still towers over most humans and near humans. His fur is grey and white in a spotted pattern typical of a non-humanoid snow leopard on some worlds. He has the sharp claws, fangs and feline legs typical of his race. His eyes are light blue. In keeping with his Mandalorian upbringing Tybalt wears a custom made chest plate with little or no armor on his arms and legs to allow for maximum movement and use of his claws in hand to hand combat. He sometimes will wear a cloak draped over his shoulders when he wants to present a slightly more subdued appearance.
While his sheer size and beast-like appearance can be off putting at first, Tybalt’s demeanor is typically relaxed and inviting. He almost always has a smile on his face. His voice is deep and gravelly with just a hint of a growl when he speaks. However, his Basic and Mando'a is otherwise flawless, a by-product of being raised by humans.
Personality
- "You could say Tybalt’s the original 'party animal'."
- ― An Erinos Mandalorian
Tybalt has a somewhat atypical personality for a Togorian. He is generally easy going, friendly and slow to anger. He’s been known to go behind Luna to try to smooth things over after she’s rubbed someone the wrong way. Tybalt always tries to keep spirits high when in a group through light pranks and puns, though he takes his work and missions seriously. He enjoys teaching others what he knows and is a very patient mentor. He can be somewhat tentative and unsure in extreme combat situations, but his loyalty to Luna and his teammates will ultimately drive him to overcome his fear.
The Togorian is also exceptionally intelligent for his race, though above average by human standards. He has a near unquenchable thirst for knowledge on how all forms of technology and machinery work. His knowledge in slicing and programming is limited, but he is a master of anything with moving parts.
Tybalt has an inexplicable affinity for apples and hard cider. No one really knows why, but he is either munching on an apple or drinking hard cider on his off time.
Combat Specialization
Engineering
- "Trust me. I can do this."
- ― Tybalt
Tybalt has always had a knack for tinkering and a lifetime of hanging around engine rooms and taking things apart has made him into a master engineer. If it has moving parts, chances are the Torgorian knows how it works and how to fix or modify it. While he knows his way around a droid or a hyperdrive engine well enough to get the job done, his speciality is weapons and personal armaments. Tybalt has spent years repairing, calibrating and fabricating weapons and armor of all shapes and sizes for the Erinos clan as one of the clan Armorers.
Heavy Weapons
- "I suppose the word subtle isn’t in your vocabulary. "
- ― Celevon Edraven commenting on Tybalt’s mission load out.
Combining his skills as an Armorer with his natural strength as a Togorian, Tybalt carries any variety of heavy or crew served weapons into combat depending on what the situation requires. While he most commonly favors a heavily modified Mandalorian Heavy Repeater, he has also been known to employ grenade launchers with specialized ordinance and a missile launcher. Even with his strength he can only carry one heavy weapon at a time and will choose based on mission requirements.
Trivia
- Tybalt is a tribute to Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw from the game Guild War 2, who (in the author’s opinion) is one of the best NPCs of all time. So many feels.
