Veyron Tal is a Neimoidian financier, investor, and member of Alaris Jinn's Inner Circle. Publicly, she serves as Chief Financial Officer of the Jinn Hospitality Group, overseeing the finances of Alaris's hospitality empire. Her actual responsibilities extend considerably further. Veyron manages Alaris's investment interests and much of his private fortune, operating with broad discretion over both.

Before joining Alaris, Veyron worked for Capital Enterprises, where she became one of the people responsible for countering his attempts to undermine the company financially. Her ability to anticipate and frustrate those efforts earned Alaris's respect long before the two ever worked together.

History

Early career

Veyron was ambitious from an early age. Wealth appealed to her, but so did the independence that came with it. She developed an interest in finance while still young and proved particularly good at understanding not only where money was moving, but why.

She pursued a career in banking and corporate finance, eventually finding herself involved with increasingly large companies and transactions. Veyron had little interest in remaining on the sidelines indefinitely. She wanted to be involved in the decisions themselves, particularly the kind capable of changing the direction of an entire company.

That ambition eventually brought her into contact with Capital Enterprises.

Capital Enterprises

Veyron first dealt with Capital Enterprises from outside the company through her work in finance. The more familiar she became with its operations, the more interested she became in working from within them. Rather than waiting for Capital Enterprises to recruit her, Veyron approached the company herself and made the move on her own terms.

She rose through its financial operations and became familiar with the enormous network of businesses, investments, and assets controlled by the company. It was there that her work eventually brought her into conflict with Alaris Jinn.

Alaris had begun using investments, shell companies, loans, acquisitions, and other financial maneuvers against Capital Enterprises. Veyron was among those trying to stop him. She recognized patterns in what initially appeared to be unrelated financial pressures and became a persistent problem for Alaris as he continued his efforts against the company.

The experience left Alaris with an unusual opinion of someone actively working against him: Veyron was better at finance than he was.

Veyron eventually came to her own conclusions about both Capital Enterprises and Alaris. She wanted greater freedom than her position could offer and believed Alaris would give it to her. Once she had made that decision, she did not wait for him to approach her.

Working for Alaris Jinn

Veyron arrived with the details already settled.

She told Alaris what she intended to do for him, what she expected to be paid, how her bonuses would be structured, where her offices would be, and where she intended to work from most often. She had already decided which members of her existing team she intended to bring with her and which positions she would fill from outside.

She did not ask Alaris for a job. She simply told him what the arrangement was going to look like.

Alaris had been expecting her.

Having spent enough time working against Veyron to understand both her ability and her temperament, he had made preparations in case she eventually decided to cross the floor. Security clearances had already been arranged, along with a discretionary fund she could begin using immediately. Veyron arrived expecting to build an operation and discovered that Alaris had already made room for her to do it.

Her public position became Chief Financial Officer of the Jinn Hospitality Group. While she genuinely oversees JHG's finances, the title also provides a convenient explanation for her constant involvement in Alaris's affairs. Her more important responsibility is the management of his investments and private financial interests. Alaris has given Veyron extraordinary latitude in that role. He owns the money; Veyron decides what to do with it.

Personality and traits

Veyron is ambitious, confident, and exceptionally self-directed. She rarely waits for opportunities to be offered to her and has made the major moves of her career on her own initiative. By the time she presents a plan, she has usually already considered the practical questions surrounding it. She is highly professional and prefers clear responsibilities to unnecessary supervision. Veyron has little objection to being questioned, but very little patience for interference from someone who does not understand the matter at hand.

Her confidence is backed by a strong awareness of her own abilities. Veyron knows she is good at what she does and has never felt much need to pretend otherwise. Within the Inner Circle, that confidence is matched by trust. Veyron has access to enough of Alaris's finances to cause him enormous damage if she ever chose to do so. Neither considers that possibility particularly interesting. Alaris trusts her with his fortune because he knows she can manage it better than he can, while Veyron treats the weaknesses exposed by that access as something she is responsible for protecting.

Skills and abilities

Veyron is an accomplished financier with extensive experience in corporate finance, investment management, acquisitions, lending, and financial planning. She is particularly skilled at examining complicated financial structures and identifying where money is actually being made, lost, hidden, or wasted. Her time at Capital Enterprises also gave her considerable experience dealing with large corporate networks and the movement of capital between numerous subsidiaries and investments. She is comfortable managing finances on a scale well beyond the day-to-day operation of a single company.

Veyron's greatest value to Alaris is not simply her ability to manage his existing wealth, but her judgment in deciding how that wealth should be used. He provides her with broad objectives and considerable freedom in pursuing them, rarely involving himself in the details unless she believes his attention is required.
