Damon Nix was the Lord Marshal of the Brotherhood, serving as a member (arguably the most senior member) of the Armed Forces of the Iron Throne. While the office of Lord Marshal was certainly at the upper most echelons of the Brotherhood's military - it was Nix's own personality, leadership style and skills, and his personal relationships with Grand Masters Muz Ashen, Pravus, and Jac Cotelin from where he derived his true power over the military. In many respects, Nix's position as Lord Marshal with respect to the Brotherhood military was analogous with Darth Vader's position as Executor with respect to the Imperial Military under Palpatine. In short, Nix wielded power because of who he was - not because of the office he held, and a lesser man in the same position would be subordinate to others.
Character History
Early Life
Little is known of Nix's early life, and he prefers to keep it this way. He was born on Eriadu to a middle class family, to a father banker and an artisan mother. By all appearances, Nix’s childhood was a happy one – there were no life changing scars in his past: no murder of his family, no real loss. Other than that, nothing is known about Nix’s formative years.
It has been suggested that Nix’s motivations for service in the Imperial military are tied to a prominent Eriaduan– Grand Moff Tarkin. The story goes that Nix was inspired by Tarkin’s goals of order throughout the galaxy – and it appealed to Nix. With Tarkin’s death, Nix felt that another Eriaduan needed to step up - so he enlisted in the Imperial Army.
It has been suggested that Nix’s closehold on his background and his family is to keep them self. It is unknown if his parents are still alive, and since they are hidden and protected, Nix cannot be attacked or manipulated through his family.
Service to the Brotherhood
Several years (three or four, so the rumours go) following the disintegration of the Empire, Nix found himself with an army unit defending a far out Imperial outpost with little to no support under determined attack from the newly constituted New Republic. Nix’s battalion found itself with few officers remaining, with most having fled the attack (and most others died), and Nix was able to rally the remaining soldiers in order to hold off assaults until relieved by parent brigade. For his heroism – and his leadership skills, Nix was commissioned.
Nearly a decade later, this same battalion (now with Nix in command) found itself serving in the Brotherhood’s military.
Having a functional command to finally serve, Nix thrived – rising up through the ranks and attracting the attention of the Brotherhood’s senior leaders.
Physical Description
Nix was a physically imposing person, broad shouldered, with short and cropped hair. Despite his age, Nix had a surprisingly youthful appearance. None of the signs of aging were there, no wrinkles, no greying hair, no degradation of muscles or bones. There were rumours amongst those that knew him that it was Nix’s association with Force users, and possible his own connection to the Force that kept his appearance so youthful. In general, he looked like a military man, and he was able to visually and physically fit in with those under in his command (even those that by all rights, should have outranked him).
