Teylas Ramar is a former pirate, turned trained pilot and later politician, who eventually turned to the dark side of the Force and joined the ranks of the Sith. A man full of contradictions, Teylas is quick to socialize but slow to trust; mostly due to concealing his true Anzat lineage. Throughout his life time he has typically traveled in small groups of people with only a select few knowing his true nature. Unlike many Sith, Teylas' lust for power is secondary to his insatiable thirst for personal recognition and legend.

Upon a chance encounter on Port Ol'val while waiting to catch a transport back to the Anzat homeworld, Teylas was brought in by Solus Gar to be his apprentice in training of the dark side of the Force. Already familiar with his Force sensitivity, the training began as a rigorous and quick campaign to allow him to join the ranks of the Sith Order as quickly as possible.

Character Biography

Reclusive Anzat

Teylas was born and grew up feeling a solitary life. Being one of the first newborns in decades, there were none of his kind on his homeworld that were even within a hundred years of his age. While there was somewhat of a boom, as much as could be from the Anzat, of new births shortly after Telyas', it came too late for his upbringing. Spending much of his time around fellow Anzat that were much older than him, the feeling of an entire community helping to raise him was obvious from early on. Although instinctively many of the other Anzat were losing their paternal and maternal traits as it had been so long since any of them had to raise a child.

After he began feeding, his connection to the Force began early on. This connection was quickly boosted once Teylas joined his parents, both Anzat representatives to the Sublight Products Corporation, and was able to have a much larger feeding area. Although they didn't leave the confines of an orbital station, it was a unique experience for the first Anzat to be born in generations.

During his youth, Teylas also showed quite an adept attunement to the Force given his young age and lack of training. However it was the lack of training that both made him dangerous and nervous of his own abilities. Because of that, he was reluctant to focus in on using the Force other than his species natural abilities to lure others in for feeding.

It was also during his youth that Teylas took a keen interest in the sciences, particularly engineering and it's surrounding fields; likely due to the fact that his parents were working so closely with his species' relationship with a ship-building manufacturer. Although like many Anzat, his long life enabled him to master the field and then quickly grow bored of it without new challenges, settings and the overwhelming drive to feed.

Revenge

While traveling out into the galaxy on his own for the first time, the young Teylas happened to venture to the crime ridden world of Nar Shaddaa. It was during his time there that he happened to come upon the nightspot of Club Vertica. While maintaining a solid stance in the corner of the club he was approached by a middle-aged, ruggedly dress, yet beautifully kept woman. After a long conversation between the two the woman, Captain Brivi Dobal, offered to bring young Teylas on board her ship as a member of her crew. With that she promised to teach the young Anzat all the ways of the galaxy, the methods of privateering and pirating, and how to handle himself as a member of her crew. It was the first promise of many that she would keep.

His Own Revenge

Obtaining the Revenge for himself, and later losing it.

Soldier of Self

Finding himself in a galaxy without a starship, trying to make himself again.

Returning Home

Finally giving up on the galaxy, or even the galaxy giving up on him, Teylas returned to Anzat. He started by joining the internal planetary security force, which only patrolled the orbit of the planet itself as was the reclusive nature of the Anzat. As a pilot for the security force he often tended to orbital patrols for ships that may pass by the system to ensure they don't come near the homeworld without authorization.

Finding himself to be disinterested with the position as a pilot, and it's reminder of grander times on the Revenge, he eventually decided to use his interpersonal and charismatic skills gained while out in the galaxy to make a position for himself in the government of his people. Putting down his blaster and fighter cockpit in favor of a desk, he obtained governorship of a small chain of islands in the southern hemisphere of his homeworld. Beginning his push into the political world, he was able to help influence and shape his people's future. Throughout the next 40 years, Teylas was able to slither his way up through the political life of the planet using his personal attributes, and a touch of Machiavellian-like plotting.

The Dark Side

While tending to a small matter on Tatooine regarding trade between Anzat and the Hutts, Teylas found himself on a short layover at Port Ol'val. The previous flight he was able to charter from Tatooine only took him to the Port, and while waiting for a transport from his homeworld to pick him up, he had an encounter with the Dark Jedi Solus Gar. Sensing the largely untapped Force sensitivity within Teylas, Solus took time to get to know the man during his stay at Port Ol'val. Eventually he propositioned Teylas to take him under his wing as an apprentice to teach him the dark side of the Force. Already attuned to his own telepathic powers, and only slightly scratching the surface of others, it was to be a grueling process.

Intending to bring Teylas into the fold quickly, an arduous regiment began for Teylas' training. Immediately showing his competitive nature, Teylas was able to master things quickly, and became quite the duelist with a lightsaber, just like his master. Although his mastery of telepathy was above par for most others, mostly due to his own species mastery of the ability, his attunement to the other Force abilities was untrained. Even after months of attempting to master his abilities, he was only able to completely master skills such as Force lightning and telekinesis. However, his seemingly natural flow with a lightsaber was more than enough to compensate for his lack of mastery of the higher Force abilities that could be worked on in time.

Soon after joining Clan Arcona, Solus and Teylas both left to join Clan Naga Sadow.

Appearance

Physical Characteristics

Teylas is often seen with a stern, yet welcoming demeanor with a strong, chiseled face to match his naturally very lightly tanned skin tone. He always sports a black goatee which matches his short, slicked back, thick, black hair and dark, almost haunting eyes. The two tentacle-like proboscises used by his species to feed upon other humanoid species are completely unnoticeable when retracted into their proper seams along the ridge of his nose. A stern, serious demeanor is usually cast about his face, yet he knows when to have fun, as the wrinkles on the corners of his mouth can attest. He got his stern demeanor from his mother's father. He, unlike Teylas, was always deadly serious; one trait she was glad he didn't acquire, even though he did get some of the looks that went along with it.

Attire

Like most other Sith, Teylas subscribes to the dress code of simple, long, dark robes underneath a hooded cloak. However, the robes that cover the top half of his body are more reminiscent of a mix between a vest he wore during his pirating days, and standard Sith robes. This mix also gives him an opportunity to carry many more smaller objects within the vest part, including a holstered blaster.

Psychological Profile

Full of personality contradictions, Teylas Ramar is a self-centered, narcissistic and sarcastic insufferable genius with a cunning wit. Despite these character flaws, he makes up for it in other aspects of his personality. Highly intelligent and quick to absorb information, he often prioritizes most of his intelligence on personal projects, advancing his own personal agenda, or gaining influence or power. For him, it's mostly about personal gain and professional credit. In conjunction with his high level of intelligence, Teylas constantly has a way of rubbing people the wrong way and coming off as quite an ass. But, deep under, he has shown on a few occasions to be able to move past that and do something for others; although this is seldom, and usually only for those he personally cares for the most. Teylas also uses his intelligence to help justify his personal decisions as almost always being for the greater good, although typically they are only for self-serving reasons. Quite antagonistic, Teylas tends to continually believe himself to be the savior of all those he deems to be in error.

This is not to say, however, that because he is straight forward that he is anti-social. Teylas' general demeanor is one of a man who comes across as accostable. His outward and social personality is somewhat contradictory to some of his personality traits, however it helps to feed some of his more undesirable habits and guilty pleasures. He can quickly bring people together with his charisma if needed for whatever purpose it might serve him.

Background Information

The character of Teylas Ramar takes heavy inspiration from the character of Tony Stark with certain specific twists and characterizations to be more adaptive to the Star Wars universe. He is portrayed through the likeness of Robert Downey Jr to match the familiarity that readers would have with his portrayal of the aforementioned Tony Stark.
