Acclivis Draco Battleteams

Together with Drynwyn's Flame and Ebon Cloak, Dragon Guard is one of the older Battleteams of House Acclivis Draco of Clan Scholae Palatinae. This once was the "intermediate" Phyle of House Acclivis Draco.

History

As the Galactic Empire was reaching its epoch, Emperor Palapatine's paranoia was becoming more distinct. Completion of his Death Star battle station was behind in its construction schedule, and sabotage was always suspected by the aging Sith Lord. In addition, Palpatine feared that an "unknown" presence was just beyond his senses - a presence that he perceived as a prelude to his own destruction.

In response to this, Palpatine delved deeply into his vault of Dark Side tomes, and came across the ancient and mysterious Historicus Tabularium, which included the recipe for the creation of a mutant-legion of force-enhanced super-soldiers - a human-reptilian hybrid that would blindly obey their creator and protect him with their very lives.

So excited by the prospect of these super-soldiers, the Emperor began investing more of his time in their development than even his mighty Death Star. The project was kept in utter secrecy - even from his most trusted Lord Vader - until the first prototypes were assembled and brought to life.

And thus was created the Dragon Guard. Part living beast, part machine, they were to be the ultimate extension of Palpatine's power and authority, forever standing by his side, and when necessary, to be sent on missions of total annihilation.

Impressive of frame and ferocious to even the most skeptical detractors, the first division of Dragon Guard were released on a distant planet in the Outer Rim, as a test run for the freshly minted warriors.

As high-ranking Imperial handlers were overseeing the progress of the Dragon Guards on the ground, they quickly came to realize that something was terribly wrong. Far from an army of controllable foot soldiers, the Dragon Guard were proving to be little more than "berserkers" - blood-lusting animals that began to turn on each other once they had eradicated nearly the entire population of a rural region, and their Imperial handlers as well.

Enraged by this apparent failure, Palpatine ordered his Death Star to destroy the planet, and all of the Dragon Guard along with it. Thereafter, the Dragon Guard project was terminated, and the Tabularium was relegated to a secure place (though it is said that Palpatine, even on the eve of his inevitable defeat, would pour over its pages in an effort to understand where he had gone wrong).

After Palpatine's death, at the time just before the ultimate collapse of the Galactic Empire, Grand Vizier Sate Pestage, Steward of the Emperor's Personal Archives and a close strategic advisor, made arrangements to deliver the Historicus Tabularium to the vaults of House Acclivis Draco of Clan Scholae Palatinae. There, the Krath of Acclivis Draco studied the Tabularium, and discovered the place where Palpatine had erred.

Using new technologies to modify the Dragon Guard recipe, they found that, instead of creating Dragon Guards from scratch, they could inject their existing Dark Jedi ranks with a new serum to increase their powers while, most importantly, maintaining their sanity. Several House Krath volunteered for the procedure, and once done, formed a battleteam phyle to be known as the Dragon Guard, Protectors of the Tabularium, serving in Palpatine's honor.
