The Ascendant Legion is made up of all ground forces controlled by Clan Plagueis, the Ascendant Clan. Control by the Plagueis Summit and under the direct command of General Ranthe Benzayn, these hardened troops are completely loyal to their dark masters and obey the will of Ascension at all times. Originally formed in 33 ABY, the Legion has since evolved to become a ruthless force comprised of both slave and droid soldiers.

History

The Ascendant Legion was originally founded by Kal di Plagia Vorrac as a reorganization of the Jusadih Military Regime's Branches in 33 ABY. After the departure of Commander Vorrac, the Branches split apart into factions of renegade troops and Dark Jedi and waged civil war against one another. Seeing that only cohesive, true Leadership could unite the Ascendant House and turn it against its enemies, the Dark Jedi who would become known as Primus Pilus led guerrilla assaults and deadly strikes against the rebellious factions until all were once again made to submit to the Quaestor’s authority. Following the resolution of this conflict, Quaestor Tra'an Reith reorganized the remnants of the old Army and Intelligence Branches into the Legion, placing the Army and the Directorate firmly and permanently under the command of the Plagueis Summit.

Organization

The Ascendant Legion is organized into three separate operational commands: Ground, Special Operations, and Aerospace. While General Benzayn is usually directly commanding one of the units that make up Ground Command, he is the overall commander of all three elements that make up the Legion as a whole.

Ground Command is itself divided into three units: Army Force Vornskr, Army Force Rancor, and Army Force Wampa. The three units are all part of the overall legion, and serve under the direction of the current Dread Lord. Rancor and Wampa, however, serve under the authority of the leaders of the Houses of Plagueis, Ajunta Pall and Karness Muur. Vornskr is a unit encompassing six regiments of troops and armor organized as a single division. Wampa and Rancor are both single regiments organized as combined arms units.

Operating independently from the three Army Force units is the Special Operations Command. This command is smaller than the other three army units, only rating at the strength of two companies. This unit, in contrast to the Army Force units comprising the main body of the Legion, is made up of soldiers and droids trained to carry out the most dangerous and specialized missions. Sniper units, commandos, and specially programed droids make up the bulk of the SOC's forces. This unit is often assigned to work under the command auspices of Army Force Vornskr.

The final operational command of the Ascendant Legion is the Aerospace Command. The pilots of this unit are all specially trained to provide transport and air support to units of the other two operational commands.

Rank Structure

While the legion operated by Clan Plagueis is overseen by free officers, the non-commissioned portions of the legion ranks are entirely made up of slave soldiers. As such, a formalized rank structure does not exist for those below officer rank within the army. The officer's rank insignia are worn on each side of the collar.
