After the Fall of Antei, the military forces of the Dark Brotherhood proper underwent extensive reorganization and re-tasking. Combined under a mobile and highly flexible Joint Task Force (JTF) structure, these forces answered directly to the Grand Master and his Dark Council in order to protect the Brotherhood and administer its will. Consisting of both naval and ground forces, the Brotherhood military was both balanced and efficient. It was capable of sustained operations over a host of environments when direct action was called for.
Army of the Iron Throne

All ground forces employed by the Dark Brotherhood fell under the common nomenclature of Army of the Iron Throne. The first formal ground unit raised under the reorganized military of the Iron Throne was the 13th Starborne Division, a light armored division, specially designed to work in concert with the Navy of the Iron Throne. The 13th would give the Grand Master and Dark Council the ability to address the Yuuzhan Vong threat, or any other, in ground-side combat and eventually retake Antei without depending on the Clans for soldiers.
Navy of the Iron Throne

All naval forces employed by the Dark Brotherhood fell under the common nomenclature of Navy of the Iron Throne. Following the Yuuzhan Vong Incursion and subsequent loss of Antei, the Brotherhood fleet was reorganized and re-tasked from its former role of defending the Antei System. The fleet became a mobile seat of power for the Grand Master and Dark Council with which to maintain order over the Clans and provide a platform from which to strike back at the Yuuzhan Vong.
Joint Task Force Rancor

The primary elements of the Brotherhood’s Army and Navy were organized as a Joint Task Force designated: Rancor. The JTF concept provided the Brotherhood with a way to maintain its government-in-exile as well as take the fight to any front at any time to serve its interests in recouping from the Eighth Great Jedi War.
