1st Battalion, or 1/8 was a mechanized infantry battalion in service to the Army of the Iron Throne. It was one of two (2) mechanized infantry battalions in the 13th Starborne Division and served under II Legion supported by Task Force 62 as part of Joint Task Force Rancor.
History
The battalion was formed in 27 ABY as part of the Dark Council’s military reformation following the Battle of Antei. With countless worlds felled by the Yuuzhan Vong onslaught, the shaken galaxy offered no shortage of fighting beings whose militaries had collapsed and desperately sought survival through employment of their skills.

The 1st Battalion was organized into four companies including a Headquarters & Headquarters Company (HHC), overseeing battalion administration, and three mechanized infantry companies. Within each mechanized company were three platoons and one headquarters platoon. Each platoon consisted of three dismount squads and one vehicle section equipped with one All Terrain Open Transport. Each company's headquarters element typically operated a number of All Terrain Scout Transports and All Terrain Recon Transports in order to keep pace with and direct their maneuver elements.

As was often the case with infantry units, those in them were responsible for incredible acts of bravery, skill, and valor. 1/8 maintained a roll of legendary soldiers whose service embodied the ideal warrior.

Equipment
Appropriations budgets were not as high for more conventional forces like 1/8. The 1st Battalion relied on older, sometimes antiquated, equipment and weapons but nevertheless executed their duties with pride and professionalism. Though some items were dated, they were all kept in top condition and were still as lethal as the day they were made.
