Zebina Arad is a male human from Chandrila, currently serving as the Fleet Captain of the ODN Hope's Whisper and is a member of the The Council of Odan-Urr. He has served in the planetary militia of his homeworld Chandrila in a reserve capacity, while preparing for a career in politics, was trained at the Imperial Academy at Carida and finally served in both the starfighter corps and naval forces of the New Republic before relocating to Wild Space and joining Odan-Urr as a Jedi.
Character History
Early Life (22 BBY - 4 BBY)

Zebina was born on a still democratic and unoccupied Chandrila in the twilight years of the Republic to a modestly wealthy family in the bureaucratic class. An only child and without close cousins, aunts, or uncles, he spent the majority of his time either buried in literature or day-dreaming about spaceborn adventures. While still a youth, his family relocated from the agricultural outskirts of Salline into the capital city of Hanna, where opportunities for political attendants like his parents were greater. His family was present for and survived the Confederacy of Independent Systems biological attack on Hanna City, though many of their friends and peers were lost to the horrific warcrime committed by General Durd. The end of the Clone Wars and the transformation of the Republic into the Galactic Empire were the backdrop to Zebina's youth and education. As a teenager, he was a reserve member of the Chandrilan Public Safety Commission. He attended political preporatory schools on both academic and social scholarship (being field-born) but had his sights set on the new opportunities for youths in a galactic military no longer populated by clones.
Education, The Empire, and the New Republic (4 BBY - 24 ABY)
Zebina finished his secondary schooling in 4 BBY and transferred to the Imperial Academy at Carida upon acceptance of his application. Although, he had submitted an intention for serving aboard a capital ship, he was inducted into the academy as a starfighter pilot candidate and received his training on the TIE platform. He often describes his time at the academy as uneventful, but was deployed on several combat missions as a member of the Bronze Squadron (a squadron of academy cadets serving genuine time in deployment) aboard a Strike Cruiser. Zebina survived the academy's rigors and graduated in the middle of his class the same year that the first Death Star was destroyed in the Battle of Yavin, after which he was commissioned as a Junior Lieutenant and transferred to the 719th Imperial Fighter Wing aboard the Star Destroyer Infractor.
Time Aboard the Infractor (0 BBY - 2 ABY)
During his two years serving in the 719th Imperial Fighter Wing, Zebina's skills as a pilot improved, but, a typical, free-spirited Chandrilan, his patience for the strict unending rigors and brutality of life aboard a Star Destroyer wore thin. His deployment primarily consisted of combating piratical activities in the Mid Rim on the edges of Hutt Space. During this time, he was recognized as an adept pilot and elevated to a TIE flight commander, but was overlooked for promotion due to his difficulty fitting into the Imperial culture of order and organization.

It was toward the end of his rotation aboard the Infractor, in 2 ABY, that Zebina first encountered the Rebel Alliance. The Star Destroyer, operating alone in the Daalang System in order to apprehend or destroy spice runners in the employ of the Hutts, was ambushed by a large Alliance force, including several squadrons of X-wings and a Mon Cal Cruiser. Caught off guard and out of position with its squadrons in wide patrol formation, the Infractor's TIE complement was quickly destroyed or disabled and the Star Destroyer jumped to safety, abandoning them. Zebina, along with several of his comrades, had been put out of action and was captured by the enemy cruiser.
Time in the Rebel Alliance (2 ABY - 4 ABY)
After having been captured by the rebels and imprisoned aboard the Mon Calamari cruiser Mon Saivarra, Zebina spent several weeks in captivity in the ship's brig as he and his compatriots were processed by the Rebel intelligence services. Eventually, as the Alliance was chronically short on pilots, those of the group who were not from staunchly Imperial worlds or families, were approached by intelligence officers and offered the chance to defect in exchange for general pardons after the war was over. As Zebina had never been particularly loyal to the Empire, he took the opportunity and was transferred off the Mon Saivarra and to an Alliance base on Xyquine II where he received further processing and a pseudo-reindoctrination into rebel military system as well as simulator time on X-wing platform. It was during Zebina's time at this base that the Second Death Star was destroyed during the Battle of Endor.
Time in the New Republic Starfighter Command (4 ABY - 7 ABY)

Though he had missed the great fight at Endor, Zebina was eager to participate in a military organization which seemed far suited to his tastes, both politically and habitually. He was re-commissioned as a Lieutenant in the now New Republic Starfighter Command and transferred to Lylak Squadron, an X-wing squadron which had been performing security operations for the cruisers coming out of the Mon Calamari System. With his new squadron, Zebina fought with distinction at the battles of Brentaal and Mindor. Following the conclusion of the Core Campaign, he was granted an extended leave of absence to reacquaint himself with his homeworld of Chandrila, newly liberated by the aforementioned campaign, visit family, and assist the planet in its reintegration into the Republic. It was during this period that Zebina had his brush with fame, meeting the Chandrilan war hero Hiram Drayson and it was at the icon's perhaps off-the-cuff suggestion that he transfer from Starfighter Command to the New Republic Navy that Zebina made the jump from snubfighters cockpits to capital ship bridges.
Thanks in part to the personal achievements on his record and in part to Drayson's signature appended to the electronic forms, Zebina's transfer to the New Republic Defense Fleet was quickly approved. His began his naval service as the executive officer aboard the CR90 Corvette Wanderer's Toes, assigned to the task force fighting Warlord Zsinj. Although a small support ship, the Wanderer's Toes took part in several major battles and its command crew, like most command crews in the Zsinj task force, saw rapid promotions. By the end of the campaign, Zebina was in command of the ship and wearing the rank of Brevet Fleet Captain (Fleet Lieutenant in the General Service).

In sharp contrast to his participation in the major thrust against Zsinj, during the Thrawn Campaign and the Low Intensity Phase, he was primarily assigned to anti-piratical duties in the Deep Core, first as the commanding officer of the Wanderer's Toes and then the commanding officer of the Nebulon-B Frigate Ackbar's Pledge. During his time aboard the Ackbar's Pledge, Zebina met his partner in life and (at least fanciful) crime, Lun'zaara, a Twi'lek squadron commander assigned to the frigate. In fact, despite being in the vicinity of the Koornacht Cluster, it wouldn't be until the Caamas Document Crisis that he would see real fleet action again, during which time it was one of the first New Republic warships to arrive in the Bothawui System and attempt to deescalate the critical situation between the pro- and anti-Bothan factions. The ship would also be a quintessential element of the formal Battle of Bothawui, using its speed to get the drop on the ambushed Star Destroyers threatening the system.
After the signing of the Pellaeon-Gavrisom Treaty in 19 ABY, both Zebina and Lun'zarra received promotions and were transferred to Coruscant as staff officers at New Republic Fleet Command and Starfighter Command, respectively. They maintained a small apartment in the upper city, but the years of a comparatively less exciting life saw the couple leverage their considerable savings from decades of service, purchase a pair of old T-65 model X-wings, and sign on with the New Republic Survey Corps in 24 ABY.
