Light Infantry units are the quintessential scouts utilised by Clan Arcona. As with all military units, their ranks are filled from the members of the Warrior caste and differ from the Skirmishing Infantry in that they do not utilise armor and are expected to have much more mobility as a direct result.
History
The Light Infantry are a recent development designed to fill a gap left by the lack of scouting vehicles available to Arcona, and as a result are trained to have exceptional stamina and survival skills, at the expense of heavy weaponry and armor. They saw limited action during the Yuuzhan Vong invasion and were given the task of protecting and guarding the civilian camps hidden amongst the mountains and forests of Selen and Eldar.
Deployment
The Light Infantry were originally intended to augment the Deep Assault Recon marines by providing a larger number of less specialized troopers that were nevertheless perfectly suited for patrolling the large nature reserves and untamed expanses of the core planets of the Dajorra System, however they only saw limited use due to the expense required to train Skirmishing Infantry up to the standard of the Light Infantry. As such, there are only 35000 Light Infantry troops, with 15000 of them being relegated to police duties in and around Estle City, as it wasn’t expected that the population would revolt and necessitate the use of fully armoured troops inside the city limits. It should also be noted that the Field units and City units regularly rotate so they do not grow complacent and lose their valuable skill sets.
Equipment
As the Light Infantry are split into two distinct sub-units – Estle City Guardians and scouts, there are two different equipment sets. The Light Infantry out in the field have large survival packs that can keep them alive and healthy in the wilderness for up to two months and also wear layered camouflaged fatigues designed to protect the wearer from a multitude of climates. Also, each trooper is given a Ghillie suit to use and maintain, allowing them exceptional visual camouflage. In terms of weaponry, field Light Infantry are given a Czerka Adjudicator as a sidearm, A Sharpshooter V sniper rifle as a ranged weapon and a vibro-machete for utility and melee combat. In every platoon there are also 2 troops equipped with C-22 Flame projectors, 2 troops equipped with FC-1 Flechette Launchers and a final 4 equipped with T-21 Light Repeaters. Their ordinance is minimal as well, with only smoke grenades being part of their arsenal.
For those in the city, there are no large survival packs or Ghillie suits – instead they carry a payload similar to Skirmishing Infantry in that they are equipped with A280 Rifles and L-23 Blaster pistols. Also, to help with possible crowd control situations, the Light Infantry are given flash-bang grenades to quell rioters before they can begin to hurt the armed forces or themselves.
