Vessel Info

The Imperial II-Class Star Destroyer, the upgrade to the hugely successful Imperial I-Class, represents one of the pinnacles of warship design in the galaxy, and virtually none that have had as much of an impact. The Imperial II class is the measuring stick to which all other warships are compared to.

The Imperial II is designed to be a self-contained fleet of its' own, as well as operate effectively in larger fleet-wide roles. Often, a single Imperial II is enough to pacify a system or keep the peace, and in fact is often designated as a peacekeeping battleship. Widely deployed by first the Galactic Empire and then by the latter governments that took over, it still remains as effective as ever despite the introduction of newer warships.

History

Acquisition

The Warspite, like its' sister ship Indomitable, have their roots in Operation: Strike Back, which was initiated by then-Consul Timbal for Clan Scholae Palatinae. Seeing the then-Clan fleet as needing some serious firepower to help protect expanding Clan interests, Timbal initiated a crash program to fund the construction of two major warships. With the help of the then-Grand Master Jac Cotelin, a front was set up that was used to order the ships from Kuat Drive Yards. Although it took a few years, the ships were finally delivered and commissioned in 27 ABY, just in time to help defend the Clan home system after the destruction of the then-existing Clan fleet. In fact, for a few days, they were the only source of system defense present.

Service to the Palpatines

The ship was previously commanded by former Clan Fleet Admiral Timbal, promoted officially as such by Consul Phoenix Olkyssagh Palpatine after the events of the Yuuzhan Vong Incursion and Operation: Reclamation. Timbal chose the Warspite as his command ship for several reasons, and was the day-to-day Captain of the ship. The crew also mainly is made up the surviving crew from the Valkyrie, but overall the crew of the Warspite is rated at Green. The Admiral was very busy running quite a few training regimens to get the crew's experience level up.

Deployment

During periods of large-scale combat, the Warspite is the Clans' command ship as well as acting as a bodyguard to the smaller but more valuable and capable Excidium II. Both ships operate as a single unit, only rarely are they apart from each other. The Warspite was designated as a command ship by the Clan Leadership since they knew that the Excidium II would draw most incoming fire, and as such would be a serious liability if forced to withdraw or seriously damaged. By splitting Flagship duties from command duties, they can ensure smooth operational orders during combat. In support of that role, the ship has been somewhat upgraded to include a bit more communications and intelligence equipment compared to its' sister ship. Further upgrades are planned as funds become available.

Since the Warspite tends to spend much of its' time in escort duties, combat opportunities have been rare, making it hard for the crew to gain practical experience. One possible method that the Clan Fleet Admiral was working out was to routinely transfer crew members from both the Excidium II and the Warspite to other Clan vessels that get more operational roles to season the crew members.
