Areas / Boroughs
The city of Menat Ombo is divided into six distinctive boroughs; the Ooroo Abbey, Jedi Library, Traders Forum, It'kla and Memit Housing Districts, as well as the Docking Circle, which lies on the outskirts of the city. Each borough is described below in detail:
Ooroo Abbey
- "And there upon the hill at the southern end of the city...the Abbey of Ooroo. That's where the Council of Urr convenes to discuss matters of great import that, well, a simple person like me just wouldn't understand"
- ―Menat Ombo resident, on the Ooroo Abbey
The Abbey, Menat Ombo's second largest structure, sits on a hill at the southern end of the city and serves as Menat Ombo's center of government. Built from rock brought in from the Honunom Desert, a feat within itself considering the Desert's extreme temperatures and dangerous fauna, the Abbey was commissioned shortly after the formation of the Council of Urr, taking over a decade to complete due to New Tython's populace being extremely low-tech; simple tools, pulleys, and wooden scaffolds were all that was used by the native and immigrant workers to complete the project.
Inside the Abbey
When one enters the brown-stone walls of the Abbey, they are first greeted with a wide courtyard paved with smoothed stones that lead off to the various "centers" of the Abbey. In the middle of the courtyard is the domed Garden of Meditative Reflection (see below) with the Watchkeeper's guard post just outside the entrance.
Off to the left is one of two locations in the Abbey that is actually guarded; the Meeting Chambers of the Council of Urr. Following the circular layout of the Old Jedi Order's Council Chamber, the Urr Council convenes in a unique room that has a large pit cut into the center, where the Councillors meet. The pit's stone floor is covered with a soft rug that bears the crest of Odan-Urr and each Councillor has a simple cushion to sit on, with the High Councillor presiding from a carved chair. The upper "tier" that rings the pit is open to any who would like to observe the meetings, whether they be Jedi or normal Harakoans. These spectators may chose between standing and sitting on benches that line the circular chamber's walls.
Other areas within the Abbey include the residences of the Urr Councillors, the second guarded area, as well as two private libraries independent of the Jedi Library and private offices where the nitty-gritty work of governmental administration is handled. Finally, there is rumored to be a secret battle circle located somewhere within the Ooroo Abbey, designed to help Menat Ombo's Jedi protectors hone their skills in combat while the daily grind of the city keeps their skills in diplomacy just as sharp.
The Garden of Meditative Reflection
- "Every Jedi should spend time meditating each day on the will of the Force. The reason for this is simple: if one has unwittingly acted contrary to the will of the Force, recognizing the mistake soon after may still give one time to make amends"
- ―Odan-Urr
Just as important as the building itself is the central meditative garden. A true nod to the Old Jedi Order, who preached meditation and consultation before engaging in any sort of conflict, the Garden is a medium-sized grassy, domed enclosure that holds many quiet spots for a Jedi to quietly reflect on his duty to the Force and New Tython. Silence is strictly enforced by the Watchkeeper, a Jedi who serves as the Garden's steward, and the consequence for breaking the silence of the garden is most often an appearance in front of the Council.
In the center of the garden is a small fountain ringed by a circle of flat stones, each stone bearing the name of a founder of House Odan-Urr in Harakoan and Basic script. The garden's only other decoration (apart from the trees, bushes, and shrubbery that are tended to by the Watchkeeper) are four statues carved from the wood found in the forests surrounding the capital, one placed in each corner of the Garden. The statues are carved in the likeness of the four great Jedi of an age long past -- Ooroo, Odan-Urr, Memit Nadil, and Nomi Sunrider (a temporary/informal apprentice of Odan-Urr). On the base of each statue is a piece of wisdom that the Jedi in question imparted to his or her contemporaries and has lasted throughout the centuries to modern day.
Halls of the Watchmen
- "To be brave in battle proves nothing. Bravery itself proves nothing. A Jedi should be prepared to put aside fear, regret and uncertainty and either fight, run, surrender or die."
- — Odan-Urr
- Main article: Halls of the Watchmen
The Halls of the Watchmen serve as the base of operations and general meeting hall of Jeth's Legacy. The reasons behind this team are unknown to those who do not have access to the interior of these halls. One things is certain, however, singing can be heard at unusual times of the day as the Watchmen gather together and rejoice in each others company.
The Watchmen are led by Raiju.
Under Ryujin, Jeth's Legacy has taken form and serves the Council with utmost efficiency. Little is known of their mission, but nothing is ever heard either.
Jedi Library
The Library stands as one of the primary facilities of the Temple of Odan-Urr. With a collection of bound and computerized materials, it also steps up as the most technologically advanced area of the planet.
Many of the books within the library are historical tomes for study of tactics and combat in the past. Training manuals of the different lightsaber forms and hand to hand styles can also be found here.
Some few of the areas within the Library are off-limits to all but the current Council Members. These areas contain the holocrons found when New Tython was claimed by the Disciples of Odan-Urr.
Visulu Markets
The Visulu Markets are the main market for supplies and sundries. Within these stalls and tents are the main products which supply the homes and appetites of the citizens of Menat Ombo.
The stalls range from inexpensive to tasteful luxury. The hawkers of the stalls can be heard from one end to the other without any problem except garbling due to fighting the other barkers. The Jedi and their families are usually given special prices due to the vendors trying to curry favors from them.
The smell of smoked meat from the indigenous animals hovers thickly in the air mixing with the rank smell of sweat and cheap alcohol. The people who congregate near the markets are anywhere from honest citizens to the underside of the city, urchins and pick pockets.
It'kla and Memit Resident Districts
The housing districts of Menat Ombo are little more than a gathering of hovels. The servants and lower ranking member of the Disciples reside here until they can find other lodgings. The houses do not look like much, but they can withstand many of the natural disasters that occur on the surface of New Tython.
With assistance from neighbors, the individual streets have taken on their own feel and look. Some look worse than others on the outside, but colors abound on the inside of each home; while others still have very ornate exteriors with fountains and the inside of them looks run down. Few of the houses are actually nice inside and out.
It’kla District
Here is the neighborhood of the Disciples along with the few families who maintain the houses and the streets. This is by far the nicer of the two districts as those who reside among the Jedi wish for them to be comfortable in the event that disputes need to be settled in their favor.
These citizens who live alongside the Jedi are often retired members of the Tythonian Militia and are prone to treat the Jedi with utmost respect and almost demand the same. All in all, this district lives harmoniously with each other and outbreaks of violence are nearly non-existent.
Memit District
The Memit District contains the dregs of Menat Ombo. The ‘reformed’ criminals tend to gravitate to this district more than It’kla. Violence is often a regular and expected occurrence in the streets of this area. The Tythonian Militia is usually kept on high alert within Memit to quell the uprisings of violence and vandalism of the houses along these streets.
Ordain Vonoro Spaceport
- "'Tis where the Jedi keep their flying ships!"
- ―Young boy on the Docking Circle
The Ordain Vonoro stands as the largest expanse of open surface used for a singular purpose. It serves the purpose of storing the entirety of the Jedi fleet of starships. Without fail, there is always some sort of activity going on from repairs to flight simulations.
The Spaceport also has a high level of immigrant traffic of those coming to either stay permanently or visiting their relatives who settled on the surface. With this influx of population the Militia also patrols the ground of Ordain Vonoro for the sole purpose of keeping the peace.
Government
The leading body of the Government is the Jedi Council which resides in Menat Ombo and oversees the disputes between the Tythonians and the Harakoans.
Other branches of the government are the Tythonian Legislature and the Harakoan Tribal Council.
