Character History
The Early Years
Csapla'nidras'tevivend, more commonly called Andraste, was born in 18 ABY on Csilla to lesser nobles of the house Csapla. Her father was a stickler for tradition, and so Andraste and her three siblings were raised in a particularly stifling environment. At the age of four, it was discovered by Andraste and her older brother Csalpa'denu'stadt, or Adenus, that the young chiss had a strong affinity for the Force. Knowing their father's dislike for force users, Adenus tried his best to keep his sister's gift hidden. However, just before Andraste's tenth birthday, there was an accident involving a poorly constructed bookshelf, and Andraste's secret was revealed to the rest of her family. After two and a half more years, Andraste expressed to her family her wish to become a Jedi and explore the galaxy, which prompted an outburst from her father, who told her to stay home and learn her place. The young chiss would not accept this, and after another confrontation with her father which ended in a broken wrist for him, she ran away from home and stowed away on the first ship she saw. At this time, she was twelve.
Planet Hopping
The ship, which was a merchant vessel owned by a human named Mav Prescott, soon landed on the planet Onderon. Andraste, who had been discovered in the ship's cargo hold, was handed off to a chiss friend of the merchant, named Shiask’ianadu’nuruddo, or Kian, as he was known locally. She spent the next two years under his care, learning Basic. This was not to last. While Andraste and Kian were returning home from one of their usual walks, they were accosted by a handful of the local thugs. The thugs demanded payment to ensure the pair's safe passage, but neither Kian nor Andraste had any credits on them. Kian was quickly shot and killed. When one of the thugs attempted to grab Andraste, she did the only thing she could do, which was to force push him into the path of a transport speeder. Terrified and fearing retaliation, she fled the scene, and later, the planet.
Andraste ran to Coruscant, hoping that she would be safe. Once there, however, she ran into the problem of not having anywhere to stay. After a few weeks of job hunting and spending the few credits she had on cheap lodgings, she landed a job as a model. Her exotic, natural beauty made her a hit, and she soon learned that it was not difficult to persuade others to agree with her, as long as they thought they would benefit in some way. She spent the next three years in comfort, living in a high-end apartment in the upper level of the planet and enjoying what little fame she had. After a while, though, her wanderlust kicked in, and she left Coruscant to explore more of the galaxy.
At the age of sixteen, in the year 34 ABY, Andraste journeyed to Tatooine. Having grown up on an icy planet, she wanted to see for herself what life on a desert world was like. She found that many of the locals could be easily manipulated, and she enjoyed the sense of danger that went along with life on a planet controlled by Hutts. Not long after arriving on Tatooine, she met a young human who called himself Ruin. Andraste and Ruin soon developed a fast friendship, as Ruin had been a Jedi before turning to the Dark Side, and was willing to teach her what little he knew. Together they sought out whatever knowledge they could about the ways of the Force, and through these searchings the two of them learned of a society of Dark Jedi.
Induction
Andraste, eager to learn as much as she could about the Force, decided to seek out and join this society. Ruin, however, was not as willing to give up his freedom and become an apprentice once again. Andraste could not convince him to change his mind, and in a decision fueled by both spite and a genuine desire to learn, she left her best friend for the Brotherhood.
