| Two years after the Battle of Yavin the Rebelion bombed the Imperial munitions depot on Onderon. This only served to fuel the flames of independence for Onderon. Once again Rehm colaborated with the Naddists. Six years later he was arrested in front of his family by Iziz Secret Police during a raid on his own home. As the officers dragged him from his pleading wife and terrified sons he screamed to his boys, "Never forget this! Use it! Never forget!" Then he was gone. | Kodais is a bit of a social elitist. He believes there is an order to the universe and one should know their place in it. As sushi has a very peculiar sense of honor. He gives his superiors the respect due their station, and his peers a kind of professional courtesy. The person however, must earn his respect. Underlings get no respect from him at all until they have proven themselves, which is difficult to do. All this makes Kodais appear snobbish or arrogant at times. Oddly enough though, manners are a big part of Kodais' sense of honor. In his opinion good manners are the hallmark of professionalism and civilization. A peer meeting Kodais for the first time may think him overly formal, but that is just his way of being polite. | | Kodais is a bit of a social elitist. | As a xenophobe he is convinced of humanity's superiority over the rest of the universe. He looks down his nose at all non-humans, and basically chooses which near-humans he accepts. He views clones to be lower than non-humans. To Kodais the artificial creation of any sentient being is an unforgivable blasphemy against the natural order of the universe. The only other real fear he possess is a case of thalassophobia. He grew up never seeing the ocean or any other body of water larger than a river or pond. Consequently he is uneasy around large bodies of water and, though he can swim, is quite nervous on water. | | As a xenophobe he is convinced of humanity's superiority over the rest of the universe. Kodais Solatus is a Krath Tyro in the Battleteam Primus Pilus of House Plagueis. An enigmatic and reclusive figure he generally keeps to himself and rarely becomes involved in many of the Brotherhood's workings. Though he has military experience, and does enjoy a good fight, he prefers the life of a scholar and philosopher.
Character History
Early Life (4 BBY-13 ABY)
Kodais was born the second son of Rehm and Sanlee Solatus in the city of Iziz on Onderon. He lived as most boys in Iziz did, attending school with his older brother, Daksis, and playing with his friends. He lived in a very stable home with a good mother and a very strong father. He loved his parents very much, especially his father.
Rehm Solatus
As with many Onderonians Rehm was a patriot and was very proud to be Onderonian. He insisted upon only Onderonian being spoken in his home and made sure his boys learned it. He also made certain that his boys knew their history. Kodais would sit at his father's feet and listen for hours about the days of Freedon Nadd and pre-Republic Onderon. He would listen as his father told him of the Republic's treachery and how it drew their world into the Republic's many wars.
Rehm hated the Republic and the Empire. During the Clone Wars, his father, Kodais' grandfather, had fought in the Separatist Army. Later Rehm himself would also fight. In the days after the Clone Wars Rehm continued to fight for Onderonian independence with the Naddists. He would eventually lose the function of his left leg in a fight with local law enforcement years before Daksis was born. Though Rehm could no longer fight, he taught his boys his mind.
Two years after the Battle of Yavin the Rebellion bombed the Imperial munitions depot on Onderon. This only served to fuel the flames of independence for Onderon. Once again Rehm collaborated with the Naddists. Six years later he was arrested in front of his family by Iziz Secret Police during a raid on his own home. As the officers dragged him from his pleading wife and terrified sons he screamed to his boys, "Never forget this! Use it! Never forget!" Then he was gone. Forever.
Daksis Solatus
The loss of his father dealt a huge mental blow to Kodais. At the young age of 12 the boy knew real hate. In accordance with Onderonian tradition Daksis became the head of the family. Though Daksis was only three years older than Kodais, he became a kind of replacement father figure for the boy. Things progressed in this manner for three years before Daksis shocked both his mother and Kodais when he joined the Imperial Stormtrooper Corps.
Kodais was devastated. How could Daksis join that which their father had fought against his entire life? Just before Daksis left for basic training the family got into a fight. During the argument Kodais attacked his brother, but was beaten back. Kodais then declared that he had no brother. Daksis simply said goodbye to his mother and left. Another hero had been taken from him, and it was the Empire's fault.
Sanlee Solatus
A loving wife and devoted mother, the Solatus household could not have asked for a better matron. She shared her husband's vision of an independent Onderon and did not object to his teaching it to their sons. However, she didn't want her husband to not get involved again. Eventually, he did and was arrested for it. She had lost the love of her life in one terrifying afternoon. The event nearly destroyed her. The only thing that kept her going was her duty to her boys and the clothing store she owned. Through routine she maintained her sanity.
However, she would never be the same again. The loss of her husband made her increasingly protective of her boys. They were the only things she had left that still connected her to Rehm. When Daksis left for Stormtrooper basic training she sank into deep depression. Kodais tried his best to help his mother maintain her store and also go to school. It was a hard time, but Sanlee finally came around.
Unfortunately for Kodais, she was even more protective and afraid that he would leave her. He knew this would be an issue in the coming years. Like his father he was a patriot and wanted to serve Onderon and its people honorably. He wanted to join the Onderonian Army. When Kodais broke the news to his mother her psyche simply snapped and she went into a hysterical fit before slipping into a near catatonic state. Shortly thereafter Sanlee was committed to a hospital for the mentally ill. Three days later Kodais joined the Onderonian Army 13 ABY at the age of 17.
The Army (13 ABY-18 ABY)
Kodais joined the Onderonian Army as an Infantryman at the age of 17. Immediately after Basic Training he volunteered for the Commando Indoctrination Program (CIP) and was accepted. The following 12 weeks was remembered by Kodais as, "Easily the most difficult and soul churning time in my life." While training in the CIP Kodais received advanced weapons training from blaster pistols to E-WEBs to mines to rockets and everything in between. Furthermore, he was trained in airborne operations with jetpacks, repulsorpacks, and "obsolete" parachutes. Integrated into the entire program was the training and use of small unit infantry tactics. Upon completing the CIP he was assigned to the 9th Commando Regiment, 173rd Air Assault Division.
The Commandos

The mission of the Commandos was to support the New Republic in its war against the Galactic Empire and protect Onderonian interests abroad. Consequently Kodais saw considerable action against the Imperial Remnant. He saw many friends killed and was himself wounded in action twice. After four hard years Kodais could no longer take the lifestyle and applied for a transfer to the Iziz Beast Rider Corps.
The Beast Riders
While the Beast Riders had ceased to be a functioning arm of the Onderonian Military centuries before, Iziz maintained a small ceremonial unit for the sake of tradition. For many it was a highly sought after assignment and largely regarded as a dream job. Kodais’ buddies could hardly believe he had been accepted. Of course they good naturedly derided his orders by calling into question his courage and general manliness. However, every one of them secretly envied him and understood why he had made the request.

Consequently he is uneasy around large bodies of water and, though he can swim, is quite nervous in or on the water. Another one if his quarks is a distinct aversion to being touched.
Being that Kodais was raised in a temperate jungle environment, he hates being cold. This was compounded when, while in the Army, his hands suffered mild frostbite during a mountain training exercise. Ever since then his hands' functions become impaired and painful in cold weather.
Physical Description
Though tall, Kodais is not a big man by any means; most would consider him of medium build. His brown hair is generally kept fairly short to keep maintenance low. Likewise his beard is clean shaven. Unlike most human Onderonians his eyes are blue. This is evidence that there was at least one immigrant in his family tree. His olive complexion however, is typical of a human Onderonian.
Kodais has a few identifying marks, none of which can be easily seen. The first is a barcode tattoo above his left ear. Kodais received his tattoo while he was a Beast Rider. The Beast Riders of old were prisoners that had been sentenced to die outside the walls of Iziz. Over time they tamed the beasts of Onderon and formed their own society to combat Iziz. These prisoners had their identification numbers tattooed on the left side of their heads. After the Beast Riders were integrated into the Onderonian Armed Forces many new Riders mimicked these tattoos as part of their esprit de corps. In keeping with tradition Kodais had his service number tattooed on his head.
The other marks are scars. One is a small scar on his lower right abdomen from a wound sustained in a knife fight. The others are a collection of small scars covering the left side and back of his neck and left forearm. These were left by shrapnel from an air burst munition while Kodais was in the Army.
Since Kodais likes to be inconspicuous he wears whatever clothing is in style for the world he is currently on. When traveling or on more rustic worlds his attire generally consists of a fatigue style jacket and trousers with boots. While in Brotherhood controlled areas he wears his robes.
Personal Life
Always the scholar, Kodais has a penchant for language. He speaks Onderonian, Basic, Hapan, and Bocce fluently; speaks passable Mando'a and Minnisiat. He also understands Cheuch, but speaks very little. Though he detests the Yuuzhan Vong he is studying their language. It is important to know one's enemy. Learning their speech is a good start. Sith is a bit more difficult for him to learn as it is near impossible to find speakers to learn from. However, he can read several different Sith scripts and knows a few words.
There aren't many worldly interests for Kodais outside of the Force and lives a somewhat monastic life. However, he does have a taste for high end whiskeys such as Corellian and Johrian. Though not necessarily a gambling man, Kodais appreciates a good game of sabacc or pazaak and usually takes his deck with him when he travels. Styling himself as a man of culture, Kodais is an amateur collector of unusual items and artifacts. Strangely he doesn't have a specific item or theme to his collection, just whatever he finds interesting.
