Character Biography

Childhood

Kalen was the first-born child to a minor noble of the Hapan Royal Court. Named after the then crown-prince of the Hapes Consortium, Kalen's mother hoped to curry favor with Queen Mother Ta'a Chume with this gesture. When Crown Prince Kalen was killed later that same year, these hopes were dashed. Kalen's mother soon discovered she was again pregnant, and upon the birth of Kalen's first sister began to largely ignore him. Ultimately Kalen's mother gave birth to a total of four daughters, making it easy to forget she even had a son.

As he grew, Kalen's studied as much as he could regarding military strategy and tactics. He knew that service in the military was his one hope to accomplish something with his life and become something more than simple breeding stock for his mother to auction off for political favor. On his seventeenth birthday, Kalen succeeded in securing a posting on board a starwars:Hapan Battle Dragon. His hopes that he had truly escaped his mother's grasp were quickly dashed as he was informed that he was now engaged to a woman of his mother's choosing. That was the day Kalen decided he had to flee the Hapes Consortium.

The family's most closely-guarded secret, however, is that they had discovered and safeguarded one of the few remaining [[starwars:Jedi_Knight|Jedi Knights]] to survive the purge of [[starwars:Order_66|Order 66]]. As part of their yearly inspection of their off-world business interests, Arion's family would visit the now elderly Jedi Knight. It was during one of these visits that the Jedi recognized in Arion an innate sensitivity to the [[starwars:Force|Force]] when the three-year old boy boldly declared that his mother was pregnant with his baby sister (despite the fact that neither of his parents were yet aware of the fact).

A flood of relief washed over him as he made contact with each of them, and confirmed that they were all healthy and equally excited to see him.

Through their eyes, he saw something that he initially thought was a moon in the sky. Then, in a flash of light, Arion felt his family, and thousands of others, die. The experience caused extensive psychological damage to the young boy, who was unprepared to deal with that kind of experience.
