Character History
Early Life
Verse was born in the city of Chume'Dan on the planet of Hapes, to a family of lesser nobility. Her mother, Elyra Theris, worked as a bureaucrat within one of the financial offices of the Hapes Consortium, a well-paid position that allowed the young Hapan’s early life to be one of wealth and leisure.
Alongside her two older sisters, Verse received tutelage in varied academic pursuits to shape her into a well-mannered and cultured young woman. The noble girl learned quickly enough, but none of the topics - from the history of her people to her training in basic Hapan martial form - managed capture much of her interest. The exception was her skill with the quintolium, which the Hapan enjoyed playing for many hours at a time in her quarters. One aspect absent from Verse’s education as a youth was training with the Force. Suspicious of Force users, the Theris family did not recognize any Force sensitivity in their youngest daughter. Verse herself was unaware of her nascent abilities, and was only occasionally bothered by especially vivid dreams.
Treasonous Trifling
As Verse reached early adulthood, she began to take interest in matters of courtly intrigue within the Consortium. At her mother’s will, Verse was assigned a vocation as a Notary in the financial office once her studies had concluded. While the young Hapan did not enjoy the tedious functions assigned to her, she did enjoy the political access that it provided her; Verse spent much of her working days eavesdropping on court gossip.
Verse descended deeper into matters of intrigue after only a few short months of working in the Consortium. Her two elder sisters inducted her into a band of political dissidents who opposed the rule of the Queen Mother of Hapes. Calling themselves the Coven of the Alighted Hand, these dozen young women met in secret within private residences in the city of Chume'Dan. Their desire for secrecy was well-founded, knowing well that any plans of action against the ruling Queen Mother would result in a swift execution if discovered.
The Coven was lucky enough to remain undetected by the monarchy for several months longer as they formulated a plot to assassinate the Queen Mother. Driven by their desire to improve their own political stations, the group was led by unfounded optimism when conspiring to usher in new rule. Verse too was greatly interested in this cloak-and-dagger scheming and participated in plotting despite her inexperience. The plan was set to take an expedition to the planet Myrkr to harvest the native ysalamir. Verse and the others hoped to use the Force-dampening abilities of the ysalamiri as a means to temporarily disable the Force powers of Queen Mother Tenel Ka Djo during the assassination attempt.
As the group was small and distrustful of each other, the Coven of the Alighted Hand journeyed beyond the reaches of the Hapes Cluster together, on a starship piloted by one of their own. Verse and the others successfully reached Myrkr, and braved into the wilds of the forested world. The Hapan women, after a few days, were successful in prying a few ysalimiri off of their Olbio trees alive. Verse and the other dissidents considered their mission accomplished at this point, placing the captured ysalimiri on nutrient frames and heading back to their ship.
A New Course
Things did not go as planned for the Hapans on their return through the forest to disembark the planet. A crew of Etti slavers who had happened to be in the system had taken notice of their arrival and intercepted them on their journey. The Hapans, including Verse, were quickly taken captive and tossed into the cargo hold of the Etti’s light cruiser along with the ysalamir on their nutrient frames. The ship was destined for the Corporate Sector, where Etti intended to sell the Hapan women as slaves.
When traveling back to the Corporate Sector, the Etti ship had mapped a hyperspace course through that took them near the planet Ziost. Unbeknownst to the slavers, Clan Arcona was battling against the One Sith on this planet at the time, as part of the Dark Crusade. While occupying the space around Ziost, the gravity well projector of the Eye of the Abyss II knocked the Etti cruiser out of hyperdrive as it passed through the area. As the war was in full swing, the pilots of the Eye of the Abyss were keen to blast the foreign ship to nanoparticles; however, the ysalimir were still aboard in the cargo hold of the vessel. Intrigued by the Force-neutral bubble surrounding the ship, the Arconans brought the Etti ship into their docking bay.
As the Arconans removed the ysalimiri from the ship, they took the inhabitants of the Etti cruiser as prisoners of war. While the Hapans of the Coven of the Alighted Hand were spared from a life of slavery, their fates did not seem much brighter as they were led down to the brig. Verse, however, caught the attention of Invictus when he noticed her as Force-sensitive. Interested in taking another Apprentice, Invictus arranged for her to be separated from the rest of her traveling group and brought to him.
It was aboard the Eye of the Abyss II that Verse began her first steps towards mastery of the Force, under the guidance of her Master Invictus. Since then, she has trained her abilities. While unsure of what each new day will bring, Verse holds high aspirations for her future.
Physical Appearance
Verse stands at a fairly standard height and build for a young Hapan woman, with long, lithe limbs and subtle curves. Her body appears unremarkable in terms of athleticism. When exposed, her skin appears fair and free of blemish or freckle. A testament to her cultural background, Verse dreads the possibility of scarring or disfigurement, and is consequently fastidious in the care of her skin. Sculpted brows arc above light-colored eyes. Her auburn hair is cropped at an angle, shorter at the nape of her neck and falling in fuller tendrils around her face. Her voice is soft and carries a recognizably Hapan lilt.
Attire
Verse prefers to don garb that highlights her femininity. She is attracted to designs cut from rich fabrics, and her style changes with the season as well as trends of fashion. However, when armored, Verse wears dark fitted hide that maximizes freedom of movement. Verse’s utility belt and holsters carry many essentials of combat, but not so many that the Hapan would become encumbered. Her face and hair remain invisible underneath an impact helmet with tinted visor. In addition, the inside of her helm is equipped with night lenses that can be activated in dark conditions. While the lenses may provide some compensation for her Hapan night-blindedness, Verse finds them cumbersome and disorienting enough that she prefers not to use them, rather avoiding darkness when possible.
Personality
Verse appears quiet and attentive. Her words are few, and seem carefully considered when chosen. The Hapan often appears inexpressive; mannerisms subtle, and features stolid. However, when driven to her breaking point, she is quick to burst into fits of rage or despair, throwing objects and screaming curses in her native tongue. The young woman seems to walk with a sense of purpose, and holds herself with impeccable posture. Despite her bearing, Verse is prone to displays of naivety, and is often reluctant to admit that she still has much yet to learn.
