Dagos Eldrel is the current Weapons Officer of the MJHC Retribution of House Marka Ragnos.
Character History
Born on the world of Coyn after the battle of Yavin, Dagos Eldrel was a Coynite of little to no remarkable traits. He was what would be considered the runt of the litter of six he was born into. His five brothers all took different traits and for whatever reason the fates conspired to make him the weakest of them all. He was harassed, bullied and generally considered an outcast amongst his siblings. Though he was what many would expect a Coynite to be he had the advantage in intelligence and would often simply outwit his brutish brothers in games or bouts of strength something that earned him no praise and would often increase the punishment they would give him.
While his brothers were trained in the art of war and conflict, Dagos found himself drawn to what little material the village had on other things. He found texts on starships and found himself spending hours and hours attempting to learn everything he possibly could about them. His true fascination lay in how the weapon systems worked and his days soon became filled with daydreams filled with space battles between heavy ordnance ships and small fighter craft. That's all they were though to him, daydreams after all Coynites were warriors and not whatever it was Dagos was.
He wished to be more and he actively seeked out chances to prove he was worth something. His father disowned him and his mother simply didn't care enough to give him the time of day given she had five true sons to look after. So by the time he matured enough he simply left. Upon announcing his decision to do so his father forced him to the ground and shaved his mane indicating he had no place in the family or true status as a Coynite and so it was Dagos became an outcast from his own people. With what little money he had scraped together, he paid a visiting trader to take him off-world and he never looked back.
Now when it’s said Dagos is the runt of the siblings it should be noted he still stands taller and broader than most humans, and could effectively break bones of most humanoids should the matter ever come up. He was just smarter at finding new ways of doing it than the average Coynite. This physic lent itself to him as he moved around the galaxy taking up odd jobs here and there. He worked for a Hutt on Nal Hutta, a street gang on Nar Shaddaa and even as a bodyguard for a New Republic dignitary who had decided to make a pilgrimage to Hoth to see where her father had died.
Over the years, and with training picked up here and there Dagos began to learn about weapons and how they worked. When he travelled aboard ships he was usually right up next to the technicians attempting everything in his power to learn everything he could. Asking the same questions over and over and usually finishing by answering himself. Though this annoyed the hell out of most techs there were some who found it amusing and were glad to have someone to go over the finer details of what made their passions tick.
In 25 ABY, he was taken on as a trainee weapons tech by a friendly captain who saw his potential and was looking for someone to replace his own weapons officer who would be retiring within a few years. The Coynite was elated and he would spend days not moving from his post as he simply discovered everything there was to discover. The combat simulations were the best and he would often be found in his quarters plugged into the holonet researching possibilities, trajectory issues and the different armaments of several different types of ship, making up counteroffensive plans should they ever come across one. As it was the most action the Coynite ever saw was when a few pirate uglies attempted to get a drop on the ship and he was able to pick them apart with minimal effort. There wasn't any challenge in his job and for four years he saw no more action.
He left the ship suddenly one day. They had made planetfall on the planet of Sepros delivering supplies to the world when Dagos came across the Dlarit armed forces of Clan Naga Sadow. He was fascinated by the precision and uniformity of the ships. He began buzzing around asking questions of any naval officer he found and though most brushed him off as an annoyance a kindly tech sat down with him in the cantina one day and went over the basics of how the Navy worked. Though nothing classified was passed over to the alien that's all Dagos needed and he was hooked. He tended his resignation and was gone.
Within days, he had signed up to the Dlarit navy and was accepted into the Warhosts training academy. It didn't take him long to impress his trainer and he was soon given more and more work to complete. The knowledge he learned had him within weeks naming off by heart the name of every ship in the Warhost, their armament type, and loads. He blew his exams out of the water and his simulation records were unmatched in his year. His photographic memory allowed him to simply replay everything over and over in his head without fault. He was reprimanded once for standing up in a lecture and telling the lecturer he was wrong. After a few harsh words, the lecturer turned to the class to put the Coynite down when another student piped up Dagos was correct.
From there he was reassigned to another class to avoid any issues with the trainer he had embarrassed. He excelled once more and within another year, he was given his first assignment aboard one of the Navy’s cruisers. Everything he had worked for had come to him, every daydream played out as a child was his at last. He was content and willing to learn more. He took part as a trainee in the 11th Great Jedi War and watched as the change of power took place in the Brotherhood. That, of course, is when it all went wrong.
Coynites along with other species were declared undesirable and Dagos soon found himself removed from his position and kept on reserve duty. His commanding officer made him aware it had nothing to do with the decree and that he valued the Coynite as much as any one of his men but it was his career on the line. Passing Dagos information about an individual that could help he sent him on his way.
He spent the next couple of weeks hiding in the back alleys of Sepros, avoiding most people and simply surviving as the Inquisitors began their purges. When he thought it relatively safe he made his way to offices of Sanguinius, the Quaestor of Marka Ragnos. Passing the note across the humans desk he sat in silence, his face ridden with fear. Nothing was said for a long while until Sanguinius turned to him and smiled, genuinely smiled, and stated he had the perfect position for a fine young Coynite. Dagos was terrified but soon found himself on a shuttle alongside the Quaestor as they made their way into orbit and docked with the MJHC Retribution.
It was explained that the last weapons officer had issues with working with the current crew of aliens and undesirables and was promptly removed from the Jedi’s command. The position was open if Dagos wanted it. He had never wanted anything more. He finished his practical training under the watchful eye of his new Captain and when he was finally prepared Sanguinius visited him personally to raise him to the rank of Ensign at last. The large Coynite held his composure outwardly but inside he wanted to break down, but it wasn't the done thing for his people, regardless if he was an outcast or not.
Dagos spent a few years on the Retribution under his current captain before an incident sparked and an unknown cruiser appeared in the system some days after the destruction of Hosnia Prime. Words on the Retribution were explained, the Captain, XO, some of the other staff and crew were reassigned to different posts and the ship took on replacements from the captured cruiser. Apparently the majority of them were New Republic refugees who had lost everything and like the Coynite, Sanguinius offered them a hand to which some accepted.
The Retribution was suddenly becoming a sanctuary for undesirables and aliens of all sorts. Then more news hit the ship. The destruction of New Tython rocked them all to the core and they feared for their lives. If a man as monstrous as Pravus was able to take out an entire planet, what would they do to their ship and even their Clan for harbouring them? Dagos swore he would fight till the end for the men and women who had helped him and he refuses to give up on that promise.
