History

The Gravewalker began its life during the High Republic Era as a Spider Cruiser constructed for a small band of Nihil Marauders. Built in the likeness of a spider, the vessel was designed to serve as both an armed ship and a mobile hunting platform. The original crew had developed a particular reputation for hunting the species known as Anzati. Following several encounters with the species, the marauders modified the cruiser specifically for that purpose, reinforcing its internal security systems and fitting portions of the vessel with restraints, sensor equipment, and a containment space intended for making captures. The ship became closely associated with the group’s hunts, and was used to pursue suspected Anzati across several remote systems.

Velira Morvane came into their sights while she was still young by Anzati standards and had not yet learned to exert consistent control over her hunger. A series of deaths near a remote settlement drew the marauders into the region, and the evidence left behind convinced them that an Anzat was responsible. They began tracking Velira, with the intention of capturing her.

After weeks of careful, the Anzati female later planned her own attack on the vessel while evading the marauders. Velira infiltrated the Spider Cruiser rather than confronting it outright, by disguising herself as one of the crewmates and quietly embedding herself among them. Over the course of several months, she learned the vessel’s routines, passages, and security systems while gradually thinning it's crew. The marauders began to disappear one at a time... Some during planetary excursions, others while isolated in the ship's cargo area.

Velira took possession of the Spider Cruiser immediately afterward, using it's own navigation records and access codes to remove it from Nihil controlled space. She later renamed the vessel the Gravewalker, in memory of the crew she had methodically hunted, for the lives of the Anzati that the ship had claimed in the years prior, and for what was meant to symbolize both the ship’s affiliation with death and her own emergence as the only one left to walk within it.

Over the centuries that followed, the ship was modified to suit Velira’s needs. Engines, armor, weapons, sensors, and internal compartments were replaced or modified as technology advanced. The most extensive modernization came with the installation of an advanced droid brain and advanced slave circuit, allowing the Gravewalker to coordinate many routine functions without an actual crew. Beneath centuries of modifications, portions of the original arachnid frame still endured— the same vessel once built to hunt Anzati, claimed by one of its intended victims, and carried forward as a personal vessel.
