Ra Nak-Budtoo is a male Gungan Loyalist and member of the Dark Jedi Brotherhood. He has attained the rank of Warrior and belongs to House Tyranus of Clan Plagueis. A soldier for most of his life, Ra relentlessly pursues greater strength even after a debilitating injury that leaves much of his body replaced by cybernetics. Although he has grown somewhat cynical and hyper-focused on his goals, Ra has pledged his loyalty to Clan Plagueis and put his talent to use as a member of the Willing.

Character History

The Colo of Otoh Raban

Ra Nak-Budtoo was born in the city of Otoh Raban on the planet Naboo. He grew up like most Gungan children, learning the ways of their society and culture as he aged. However, unlike most of his peers, Ra had a tendency towards rule-breaking. When he was told not to do something, the young Gungan would almost always interpret the words as a challenge instead of a rule. He would push boundaries whenever he had the chance and always strove to prove himself the bravest and strongest of his fellows. Due to this, he had a habit of ending up coming home with scrapes and bruises. Throughout his youth, while his misbehaving was not tolerated, his parents and mentors simply pushed forward hoping he would one day grow out of his mindset and mature into someone more level-headed.

As Ra continued to age, however, his attitude only worsened. He began to take on more dangerous challenges and even pick fights with his peers. His reputation was already suffering, so as he came into adolescence, the young Gungan became a pariah among his fellows. This only lead him to further goad the others into confrontations. In a physical clash, Ra would almost always come out on top, as he fought as if his life depended on it even over the most mundane of disagreements. He earned himself the nickname "Colo" from his peers, after the Colo claw fish, for his tendency to quick and violent aggression. It was at this point his parents truly began to worry for his future. They consulted with the Boss of Otoh Raban, who suggested they have Ra join the Otoh Raban Army. They hoped that there he would be able to focus his aggression into something more positive.

To his parents' surprise, Ra happily agreed to the proposal. Although he was still a bit young, Ra began working with the army and training to join it. His physicality and drive made him a natural in the role. For the first few years, everything seemed fine as Ra completed his training and became a valued, but carefully monitored, soldier. As everyone had hoped, his personality made him a great fit. "Colo" went from a disparaging brand to a term of endearment that represented Ra's tendency to put his all into the tasks he focused on. That all changed, however, when the Otoh Raban army entered into ceremonial war-games with another nearby Gungan city. In the heat of the simulated battle, Ra went overboard and brutally killed several of the enemy soldiers, even though the ceremonial nature of the war games forbade intentional death. The repairs that had been done to Ra's reputation were undone and the young adult was exiled from the army, the neighboring city, and Otoh Raban itself. While Ra's parents and peers were quite upset at everything that had transpired, Ra realized that defeating and killing his enemies had left him with a uniquely warm feeling inside. He was happy to leave behind the city that had once shunned him and pursue this new interest in territories unknown.

Exile

Now in exile, Ra ascended to the surface of Naboo and began to roam the swamps, adjusting to a life outside of Gungan society. In an effort to sate his newfound bloodlust and further hone his strength, he would attack any creature, sentient or not, that approached him. He lived in the wild in solitude for many years, but eventually, even he began to be affected by the loneliness. Venturing out of the swamps and further exploring the surface world of Naboo, his natural Gungan affinity with animals allowed him to capture and tame a kaadu, which he named Colo after the moniker he had left behind when he was exiled. Colo became not only Ra's main form of socialization, but also a mount that he used to travel quicker. With this new additional mobility, Ra was able to travel further and faster than before, which lead him to his first encounter with the human residents of Naboo.

Ra discovered a party of Naboo natives surveying swampland nearby a human city. As he was accustomed to at this point, he attacked them. Although he killed many of them with the advantage of surprise, the Gungan was eventually overpowered by their superior weaponry. The Naboo captured him and took him back to the city, intrigued by the prospect of a feral Gungan. The other Gungans the Naboo dealt with had all been quite peaceful and willing to cooperate, but Ra seemed to be a different case. Through months of imprisonment and rehabilitation, Ra slowly regressed from his more savage habits he'd built up over the years of living in the wilderness and managed to become civil enough to tell his story to the Naboo. His captors contacted Otoh Raban and questioned them about Ra. Upon discovering both sides of the story, they were able to put together a complete picture.

With Ra's sanity seemingly restored, the Naboo court's presided over his case to determine his fate for having killed some of their citizens. It was determined that he be spared from execution due to a bout of temporary insanity brought about by extreme isolation. Instead, they decided to follow the Gungans' example and give him the opportunity to start over away from Naboo. They reunited Ra with Colo, who had been kept in captivity during his owner's imprisonment, and gave him a passage on a commercial vessel that was departing the planet. Ra went, once again happy to leave his life behind in order to experience new things and grow further. He had no intention of ever returning to Naboo, any feelings he had for the planet were buried so deep he was unaware of them.

Galactic Soldier

Once he was out in the galaxy, Ra wasted little time in finding work. He moved from planet to planet, joining up with whatever army he could find, be it private or planetary. He strove to continually make himself stronger, constantly sparring with new comrades and species as he explored the galaxy. He didn't stay in places for long, usually only staying with a particular outfit for a single tour before moving on. The Gungan didn't like when things got quiet or he was relegated to peaceful patrols for days, so he often looked for battle zones or contentious areas that would give him the opportunity to fight to his heart's content. He came to learn a variety of skills and abilities while he gained vital experience and strength.

Then came the First Order. Upon seeing the Empire's attempted return, it wasn't long before Ra found himself a member of the Resistance. He was eager to get the chance to fight against such a massive trained force. However, things didn't go as planned. On one of his first missions with the Resistance, things went wrong and a stray thermal detonator, thrown by one of the Resistance's own, blew up in Ra's face, maiming him and killing Colo. The Resistance managed to survive the mission and the dying Gungan was extracted along with the rest of the still living soldiers. With a large bank account that Ra had built up over the last decade from working for so many militaries, he was easily able to fund the rebuilding of his body. However, when he finally came to months later, the Gungan realized things would never be the same. The body he had built up for so long was replaced with machinery that could never function in the same way. It was only after he killed the medical staffers attending him that he realized there was still potential in this new body.

Ra hunted down the soldier responsible for his injuries and destroyed him, killing anyone in his way. At this point he realized that there was no staying with the Resistance, so he had no choice but to abandon the organization, searching out somewhere knew he could test himself and avoid any repercussions. His search eventually brought him to a warzone in the Unknown Regions. It was there that Ra discovered the Dark Jedi Brotherhood. During the Zsoldos Incursion, he was caught unawares between two warring factions: Clan Vizsla, the inhabitants of Zsoldos on which he was currently staying, and Clan Plagueis, an invading force. Initially, Ra fought against the invaders, eager at the chance to battle new and unknown enemies. However, over the course of the conflict, having learned more about each group throughout its course, Ra left Zsoldos to pursue earning a place in Plagueis' ranks.

Newly Minted Plagueian

Through the entry process into Plagueis, Ra learned more about the Brotherhood and the Clan itself. He was able to prove himself enough to gain citizenship and became a member of the Willing, taking the offered lodgings in House Tyranus' Fort Dooku. New to the Clan and still without much companionship, Ra noticed Colo's lack of presence for the first time. As a result, he decided to use the Clan's black market channels to purchase a new kaadu to act as his companion and named it Kolo. Finally establishing himself in Plagueis, Ra was ready to strive for the top, welcoming the Clan's slowly growing tension as an opportunity waiting to blossom.

Physical Description

Appearance

Ra is a tall and thick Otolla Gungan warrior with a powerful, muscular build and thick frame. His one eye has a dark purple color that contrasts with his lighter green skin. His skin is leathery and pockmarked with scars and blemishes of a distinctive orange tone. Along with his left eye being his only remaining organic eye, his left haillu is left with no partner. Instead, the entire right side of his head and his entire jaw have been replaced with cybernetics, leaving his nose, left eyestalk, left haillu, and a small section of face between them the only organic remnants of his head. Similarly, his entire neck, along with his right shoulder, breast, and arm have all been replaced by cybernetics.

Clothing

Ra is often wearing functional but comfortable active wear. Breathable, fitting clothing that does not get in his way or impede his movement much. He doesn't have much of a sense of style, opting for simpler patterns or designs with darker color schemes. Jackets and vests are common in his wardrobe and pockets are a must-have. When going into an active combat situation, he will usually don his armor, pieces similar to the Imperial Swamp Trooper armor painted in a black and blue camouflage pattern. He generally avoids helmets and hats due to the lack of headwear designed to work with his headshape. However, bandanas or similar flexible headwear isn't uncommon. Even when not in his armor, Ra can usually be found strapped with holsters, utility belts, or packs. He is rarely unarmed. For more formal occasions, he will usually fall back on his armor or something similarly functional and militaristic.
