Mughim Viik is a native of the Dac Compound on New Tython, and the current Chairman of its Elder Council. Born to the small Quarren minority that migrated with the Mon Calamari founders of the Dac Compound, he grew up in the lower class before enlisting with the Compound's Academy, working to become a soldier in the Marine Corps. After proving his intelligence, loyalty, and valor, he worked his way through the ranks before breaking records and becoming the General of the Corps. During the Liberation of New Tython, he organized the forces of the Dac Compound following the death of Chairman Bilghul to Thuronian forces, before rising to become the first Quarren Chairman of the Dac Compound.
History
Early Life
Born in the years following the colonization of the Dac Compound's island, Mughim's father was killed while fending off aquatic predators; his mother would go on to work in a service job, trying to make ends meet. As he grew up, Viik would need to fend off bullies within and outside of the Compound's Quarren population, and would end up working many labor and service jobs to aid his mother. When she passed away to a bad fever, he chose to enlist with the Compound's Academy, and would eventually join the Marine Corps.
Military Service
Given the peaceful nature of New Tython and the insular nature of the Dac Compound, Mughim's service would largely consist of the work of a peace officer, and in patrolling the waters around the Compound to ensure that predatory creatures and smuggler elements did not threaten the safety of the populace. Due to his species, one not commonly seen in the ranks of Marines, Mughim had a natural predilection to deep-sea diving and was often on hand to both patrol the deepest waters and perform rescue dives. Training to utilize blaster weapons like his peers, he eschewed the force pikes typically used by Compound Marines in favor of a traditional Quarren trident - a weapon he would come to master, both for combat and day-to-day use.
Mughim's first service of distinction came when a deep-sea mine near the Compound collapsed, trapping the miners within and damaging their survival equipment. While the other Marines required rests, specialized gear, and other time-consuming measures, Mughim risked his life by diving directly to the mine; placing explosive charges, he was able to clear the debris, allowing most of the miners to escape. The explosives destabilized the mine further, putting the wounded inside at risk. Mughim's decision to go in after them saved many lives, and thanks to his natural inclination to pressurized environments, he was able to survive for three days when a cave-in trapped him inside. Upon depressurization and surfacing, he was promoted to an Officer position, and began to take command.
Working shrewdly and tactically, Mughim made the right friends, learned the proper skills, and above all, became a stalwart patriot; he became a supporter of the pro-isolationism stances of the Mon Calamari of New Tython, and became something of a success story. Eventually, after review with the Elder Council, he would be elevated yet again - this time to General of the Marine Corps.
Fall and Liberation of New Tython
During the Fall of New Tython, the Dac Compound was largely excluded from the initial conquest; while the Harakoan tribes were smashed and scattered and the Tythonian colonies were subdued violently, their only warning was that all communication outside of the Compound had ceased. Mughim was the first to feel unease with the situation, and his orders for the Corps to arm and take defensive positions is said to have been the only reason Thuron's forces did not sack the Compound outright. Instead, General Viik and the Elder Council met with Thuronian General Alek Mirr, who made his terms very clear - surrender, and allow a Thuronian garrison, or see the Compound obliterated outright. Mughim only had to take a cursory look at the firepower of the enemy before agreeing to the terms, ensuring the survival of his people.
After the Thuronians arrived, the Marine Corps, the Elder Council, and any other dissenters were imprisoned in the Prison Chambers of the Dac Compound. Only a handful of staff were kept free, their freedom paid for by helping the Monarchy maintain the Compound. Their position in the Compound gave them effective air superiority and waterway control for the entire planet; thus, when the Jedi returned to the world, the Compound was their first target. Viik was present for the infilration of the Prison Chambers by Kah Manet and the militigungs of the Scourge of Lianorm; he was quick to rally the Marine Corps, who were able to save thousands of lives and help secure the city for the Jedi. Following the death of Chairman Bilghul, Viik was appointed de facto commander of the Compound's forces, and would go on to assist the Jedi's invasion of the world.
Following the fall of Thuron and the liberation of the planet, Mughim earned the favor of the Council when he demanded amendments to the Treaty of Menat Ombo; rather than falling under the banner of the Tythonian Colonies, he insisted that the Dac Compound, as well as any other colonies that so chose, would be free to defend its own territory, govern itself, and prosecute criminals under their own legal code. After some negotiation, which included fair provisions for members of other signatory nations and free trade between different groups, he signed on behalf of the Independent Colonies of New Tython.
Following this, he was surprised by the Council's decision to elect him as their first Quarren Chairman, and accepted with full honors.
Physical Description
Mughim Viik is a Quarren of slightly less-than-average height and weight, but is quite lithe and sleek for his build. A Quarren of the clawed, three-fingered variety, he has the common orange pigmentation of his people. Possessing face tentacles of average size and hooked fangs, he nonetheless manages to look formal and proper even to the eyes of humans looking upon him. Typically clad in the uniform of his office, he carries a blaster pistol configured for both terrestrial and underwater combat at all times. In situations of combat, he typically dons light battle armor, though unlike many soldiers he won't wear deep submersion gear; he has no need of it.
Skills and Abilities
His diving exploits aside, Mughim is an accomplished melee fighter, both above and below the surface of the waters. His weapon of choice is a Trident, though he will also use knives and his bare hands if he must and is trained with blaster weapons. He also knows the use of minor explosives, though by no means is he an expert in their applications. As he is not a particularly large Quarren, his combat is more fluid and based on speed and guile. His real strengths come from his mind, however, as he is quite intelligent and has a gift for tactics and logistics.
