Kahlora Teka is a Togruta Dark Jedi and the apprentice of Alaris Jinn. Raised within the Dark Jedi Brotherhood from an early age, Kahlora spent much of her youth at the Shadow Academy and remembers little of her life before entering the organization. After years of moving through the Brotherhood without finding a permanent home, she eventually came under the tutelage of Alaris Jinn and became a member of his household.
Character History
Child of the Shadow Academy
Kahlora Teka was born in 21 ABY, although little is known about the circumstances of her birth or her family. She entered the Shadow Academy while still a young child and has few clear memories of her life beforehand. She does not remember her parents and cannot reliably identify her homeworld. What memories remain are fragmentary enough that Kahlora herself is uncertain which are genuine.
As a result, the Shadow Academy provided most of what Kahlora remembers as a childhood. She received her education there alongside instruction in the Force, the Dark Side, the history of the Brotherhood, and combat. Instructors and other students came and went throughout her youth, leaving the Academy itself as the only constant in her early life.
Kahlora showed an early aptitude for combat and quickly developed a competitive streak. She enjoyed testing herself against other students and responded strongly to challenges, particularly when she believed her abilities were being questioned. Her anger proved useful in drawing upon the Dark Side, and she became accustomed to relying upon it when pushed.
By the time she left the Academy, Kahlora knew how to fight and had few doubts about her ability to do so. She was considerably less certain about what she was supposed to do next.
Wayward Sith
Kahlora spent the years after leaving the Shadow Academy moving through the Brotherhood without establishing any lasting attachment to a master, unit, or Clan. Her combat ability made finding work easy. She was aggressive, willing to take risks, and rarely objected when an assignment called for violence.
She also developed a reputation for being difficult to manage. Kahlora was impatient, argumentative, and quick to take insults personally. Attempts to rein in her temper often made matters worse, while others simply took advantage of it. She was useful when pointed toward an enemy and more than capable of taking care of herself once she got there.
Kahlora enjoyed being considered dangerous and rarely turned down an opportunity to prove herself. Competition came naturally to her, and defeat tended to remain on her mind considerably longer than it did for whoever had beaten her. Her years at the Shadow Academy had taught her how to draw strength from anger and passion, but she had developed little patience for deciding when either was useful.
Despite spending most of her remembered life in the Brotherhood, Kahlora never found anywhere in it that felt particularly permanent.
Apprentice to Alaris Jinn

Kahlora eventually attracted the attention of Alaris Jinn. Unlike several of the people who had previously worked with her, Alaris had little interest in either encouraging her temper or trying to eliminate it. Kahlora was already a capable fighter by the time they met, and teaching her to become more violent was hardly necessary.
Instead, Alaris focused much of her training on control. Kahlora had grown accustomed to treating victory as proof that she had made the correct decision. Alaris regularly challenged that assumption, particularly when anger made her predictable or pride kept her fighting after there was nothing left to gain.
Their relationship was confrontational from the beginning. Kahlora frequently argued with Alaris and was willing to question his decisions when she disagreed with them. Alaris rarely objected to the disagreement itself, but expected her to explain why she believed he was wrong. Simply being angry was not an argument.
Alaris eventually took Kahlora as his apprentice. Under his instruction, she continued developing as a combatant while learning to treat anger as something to use deliberately rather than reflexively. Kahlora remained considerably more aggressive than her Master and continued to enjoy fighting, but gradually became less inclined to confuse an immediate victory with accomplishing an objective.
Kahlora eventually became a permanent member of Alaris's household and one of the regular residents of Aster Vale. She had spent almost her entire life surrounded by the Brotherhood, but had rarely remained anywhere for long after leaving the Shadow Academy. Aster Vale became the first place she considered her own home.
Personality and Philosophy
Kahlora is passionate, competitive, and outspoken. She enjoys proving herself and has little difficulty letting someone know when she believes they are wrong. She can be arrogant about her abilities and takes particular pleasure in succeeding at something she has been told she cannot do.
She has a quick temper and a long memory for insults. While she has become better at deciding whether an insult deserves a response, the desire to respond has never gone away. Kahlora enjoys combat and does not regard violence as something that needs to be avoided simply because another solution exists. She has, however, become more selective about when violence is actually worth the trouble.
She is a notorious flirt and libertine. She will often date several women casually concurrently, sometimes even at the same time.
Competition is one of the easiest ways to motivate Kahlora. She dislikes being outdone and has a tendency to turn even relatively mundane activities into contests when given the opportunity. Losing usually results in an immediate demand for another attempt rather than graceful acceptance.
Kahlora's relationship with Alaris reflects much of this temperament. She is not an obedient apprentice and does not pretend to agree with him when she does not. Their arguments can become heated, but Kahlora has gradually learned that disagreement carries more weight when she can support it with something other than anger. On the occasions when she does change Alaris's mind, she takes considerable satisfaction in reminding him of it.
Away from her training, Kahlora is considerably less severe than her reputation as a Sith suggests. She enjoys the comforts available to her at Aster Vale and makes liberal use of its library and holo-rooms. After spending much of her life moving between institutions and assignments, she has become strongly attached to the estate and the people who live there with a particular fondness for Hikari Kojima, though she will never admit it.
