Early Life
Garett Wayne was born just in a rural village on Selen, the only child. His mother died in child birth, and his father died fighting in a village dispute when Garett was seven. Wayne was sent to an orphanage in Estle City, an orphanage created specifically to groom orphaned children so they could attend a military academy when they came of age. Wayne was a natural leader, displaying his ability to form bonds with other children early in his time at the orphanage.
So, in 18 ABY, at the age of sixteen, the former military officer running the orphanage saw fit to recommend Wayne to attend the officer’s academy. He graduated at the age of nineteen, in 21 ABY. He was sent to the 4th Light Skirmishing Brigade, where he served as a senior analyst and tactician.
Early Days in the 4th
Wayne excelled as a tactician, and became well respected by his fellow officers. Most were young, older than him but still very young. He was good at what he did, and made friends very quickly. He had no family, and when the rest of the families were worried about their parents and siblings, Wayne had no such limitations.
In 23 ABY he was promoted to assistant brigade commander, where he helped take charge of the brigade and turn it into one of the most capable forces stationed at the Torbai Garrison. The brigade commander was old by some standards, and had lost his ambition. So, in 25 ABY, Garett Wayne succeeded him as Commander of the IV Division.
Division Commander
When the Yuuzhan Vong invaded, Wayne led the men of the 8th Skirmishing Infantry and 4th Light Infantry Brigades in the defense of Estle City. However, the invaders were powerful, and the Arconan troops just didn’t have the firepower and ability to turn them back. However, when the rest of the Clan was retreating, Wayne and his men were left behind.
When Wayne met up with the other Division Commander still on the surface, Thomatrov Hughes, the other immediately deferred to his seniority as an officer, and requested that he lead the resistance movement. Wayne declined, however, desiring to take an assistant role under Hughes’ leadership.
For the next two years, they would carry out raids and attacks on the Yuuzhan Vong, slowing their Vongforming efforts and other surface scarring on Selen. They set up underground headquarters in the Selen countryside, near Wayne’s birthplace. The Arconan troopers had a lot of hope for the system, still, and awaited the day the Dark Jedi would return to reclaim the system.
Personality
Wayne was a wise and patient officer, and came to look upon Hughes as a student of his, despite the fact that he was only a year older than the Division III Commander. He had spent three years more in the army, and had fought the Yuuzhan Vong more during the Eighth Great Jedi War than Hughes had. Even so, neither was truly more skilled than the other.
