But yeah, Tron, we're not gonna go whining to the Justicar about this; that'd be ridiculous. You're not throwing bans from left and right, and these events hardly constitute a charge of abuse of power. I just figured I'd ask why a ban happened and you gave me the information I needed to answer my question. I just decided to deliver my concern by way of asking, not accusing, because I believe that's a more professional way of approaching it. - Ronovi 08:08, 2 October (PST)

Categories

I'd say go ahead and add a category for Clans & Houses but make sure those pages also have the category of DJB Help. Kaine Mandaala

You're a monster :D

You're an editing machine, man. I'm glad someone's as ambitious as I've been. Good work :) Kaine Mandaala

Indeed Great Work --Dessan 13:17, 7 September 2006 (Mountain Daylight Time)

I am glad some one edits.

I am more of a lumbering hulking crappy coding and content adding type :p Sarin

Thanks

My reach of html, or whatever the hell goes on in wiki, is limited as of late, thanks for the resize, heh -- Kosk

Eh?

September 29, 2006 Tron m (You cannot add yourself to the Category: Influential Members)

Eh? You added yourself to the category :P --Retoru 09:18, 30 September 2006 (Mountain Daylight Time)

No. Somebody added me to the category, I did not. --Tron 14:01, 30 September 2006 (Mountain Daylight Time)

It shows as being added in one of the early edits of your page by you, then removed by you, then added again by Lenzar and it stayed after that. Dug through every revision, lol. --Retoru 15:05, 30 September 2006 (Mountain Daylight Time)

No. Look at the history and compare these dates for accuarcy as to who did it:

  • (cur) (last) 19:25, September 12, 2006 Kaine Mandaala m (Watch your personal comments or you'll be banned, Nybble.)
  • (cur) (last) 19:24, September 12, 2006 Kaine Mandaala m (Reverted edit of Nybble, changed back to last version by Tron)
  • (cur) (last) 19:03, September 12, 2006 Nybble (Tron is far more deserving than Cyris to be in the IM list)

Nybble (Lenzar) put it in there, Kaine took it out, Kaine then re-added it. I at no time ever put it in there. I have been around the DB forever, I have done somethings that hopefully will never be forgotten, but I never asked to be listed as an Influential Member. I'm not saying I don't appreciate it, but really since it's a moderated category (or is supposed to be) it's up to Kaine to decide as the Wiki Tribune. --Tron 16:57, 30 September 2006 (Mountain Daylight Time)

My mistake, Tron. No offense was intended to you. --Retoru 02:28, 1 October 2006 (Mountain Daylight Time)

Soulfire Image Edit

Question. Reasoning for the removal of the 'Created By' under the image?

~Esca~

When in an Infobox, it depreciates the Infobox. A note can be added at the bottom of the page OR you can put it in like so: |image= . Also, we don't use links to images outside the wiki - upload the image to the wiki or one of the other Sysops will remove the link more than likely. I've fixed Soulfire's image. --Tron 22:27, 24 December 2006 (Mountain Standard Time)

Right. Sorry about that then. =P Thanks for the info. =)

Brimstone -

Please stop editing my Wiki page without consulting me first. I am replacing my Awards and medals back on like I had it.

Redirects

Why are redirects being deleted from the wiki? I noticed you recently deleted the redirect from Eludajae to Eludajae "Lynx" M'Nar, a redirect that would be helpful for someone searching for her page. Are redirects for the benefit of people searching for the page not allowed? I've never seen anything against it in the course or the editing policies. Impie 10:27, 15 August 2008 (MDT)

  • Sorry, I was just trying to simplify and rid of any needless redirects. I've never been much of one for redirects, I don't know Rev's feelings - while he is Wiki Tribune he has final say and I'll abide by whatever he says - but instead of using redirects it's also easy to just use the vertical line | when making a link Tron. I know everyone has redirects, I'm sure someone even made one for Tron to link to my full name, I just don't see a need for it when you can do the other option. Again, I apologize for messing things up. --Tron 19:16, 15 August 2008 (MDT)
  • I was thinking not for linking to the page, but for people looking for it. Take yours as an example. It's far easier if someone's looking for your page to type Tron into the search page and have your page come up, instead of going through the search page or type Astronicus Aurelius Sadow. I think for the convenience of the people looking around the wiki we should redirect first names to full names -- Impie 04:44, 16 August 2008 (MDT)

Wiki Rename

Greetings. Could you rename me to Noctis (as it is my current name in the DB) Darion was my old one. Thanks Noctis

Image deletion

So, we have 6 hours to link an image before it's deleted? That seems nice and helpful, especially given that people often work together to create wiki articles and might not be doing so at the same time. I'd suggest being a little more leniant in the future and not delete images less than a day after they're added. --Sashar 13:28, 26 May 2009 (MDT)

  • If you upload an image you should add it to an article right then - we normally give a 24 hr window, but it was my usual late night look over and I had not seen them used. Each night before I go to bed I log in and go to Unused files and Wanted pages to do last minute fixes. If I give someone more than 24 hrs then the next person who only gets 24 hrs is going to complain until we have 500 unused images laying around. Before this goes any further, look over this part of the Editing Policies. --Tron 18:44, 26 May 2009 (MDT)

Template additions

I need permission to help improve the quality of a wiki? Well that's....interesting, especially considering that your policies, all of which I read before adding that template, say nothing of the sort (unless I missed something, which I don't believe I did). Nevertheless, if that's what you want, that's what you shall receive. I just didn't want an article with my character's name on it, a name that was taken without proper and legally required credit before I added it to the article, to not have properly sourced images. Anyway, thank you for informing me. - Brandon Rhea 04:06, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

Brandon Rhea: As far as I'm concerned, Tron has expressed openness to outside sources helping improve the wiki, but the fact that he wishes for contact or approval first should not be unacceptable. Furthermore, it is a daunting task to keep track of every single member's sourcing. Whether it be movie stills, art pieces - the fact remains is that they are open on the internet, and not everyone can keep track of the names and sources. Keep in mind, Tron has taken your work into account by creating his own Template format with sourcing images, and some members are beginning to use it. But it is very difficult to manage more than a hundred articles as to whether or not their images provide certain sources. Don't worry - your contribution has not been overlooked. Just know that our Wiki Tribune has certain preferences to how things are done. - Ronovi Tavisaen, 10:39, 19 June 2009 (PST)

  • Well I hope my message wasn't the sole reason the article was deleted, as I wasn't upset about it or anything (the talk page of the article indicates that much). If it was just because he's inactive, ok then. No harm, no foul. Makes sense to me. Also, just as a general recommendation, you should consider adding a bit to your policies and guidelines about how you need to talk to you about adding templates and such. It would cut down on confusion. :) @Ronovi - I'm aware of that, hence why I agreed to it. ;) - Brandon Rhea 16:45, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

Wiki Warnings

Have the warnings been done away with and just go straight to the banning? Phoenix d'Tana

  • I did find the three day banning for Vai Azexel to be a bit harsh. Has he been warned for not using the preview button before? And if so, has he already received a one day ban? I did not find anything pertaining to save page abuse on his discussion page. -Ronovi 14:20, 1 October 2009 (PST)
    • I found the one on Zeon harsh too, he removed a 4 month old notice about preview from his talk page, and was banned for a day without a warning while he was working on his page. I think we need to stop banning first and explaining later, doesn't do anyone any good and just gives people a worse impression of us as staff members when they see us banning people for relatively little Impie 21:37, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
      • First, as regards Vai Azexel, he already had 2 warnings in that matter on his talk page. The warnings do not have to be in the same time period, it is like getting 3 traffic citations you don't always get them all at the same time. If you look at User talk:Vai Azexel you can see that Rev gave him one and I've given him one before. As per the Editing Policies this was his 3rd warning and so he received a 3 day ban. As for Zeon, he removed a warning on his talk page - how are the Staff supposed to keep track of offenses if the users are allowed to erase them? A one day ban seemed suitable. If you feel I have abused my position you are free to take this to the Justicar but I feel I have done nothing wrong. --Tron 06:45, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
        • Let's not go nuts, we're not going to CoJ you for abuse of power, merely commenting that handing out bans like candy might not be a good way to make using the Wiki a more enjoyable and more productive task. In the case of Zeon, he probably didn't realise that making a few edits in quick succession would warrant a permanent mark on his discussion page, especially when it's pretty evident that he's now using the preview button. I may be looking at this the wrong way, but I feel a ban of any length for a first offence for something as insignificant as that unsuitable. If we're gonna want people to enjoy using the wiki, banning people for silly stuff like removing 4 month old messages that they've learned from probably isn't the way to go about it. I've noticed the recent changes getting gradually smaller and smaller, and it's probably because of stuff like this.

It's wrong for a member to remove a 4 month old now-redundant note, and warrants a 1 day ban from working on his page, delaying its progress, however us as staff members are supposed to remove images less than a day after hosting if they're not yet used, but will be. I personally think we need a complete overhaul of how we react towards the members. Zeon probably won't remove staff notices again, but if I were in his position, I wouldn't have much motivation to do anything else on the wiki either.

As with Vai Azexel, he made 7 edits over the course of an hour, 9 over the course of two. Who really cares? Honestly? I know it's to make it easier to keep track of the recent changes, but with the amount that people use the wiki page, we get 4 different days on one screen anyway, it's hardly arduous enough to scroll down a few lines for us to ban people for 3 days for making us do so. Maybe 20 or 30 we could think of taking action, cause that takes up half the window and probably breaks the day into two pages, giving us the task of pressing the next page button, taking almost as long as banning them for doing it, but 9 edits is nothing. We need to help the members, not be a thorn in their side. Impie 08:52, 2 October 2009 (UTC)

          • Tron, thank you for showing me the talk page. I'm surprised I wasn't able to find it. I will ask, though - are the members given notification at all that they've been banned besides when they attempt to log in? I recently spoke with Vai and he said he received no notice of what was happening; is there any way they're contacted? Obviously they can't receive an update on their talk page if they're not able to log in.
