Sato Tarentae is a erudite Sith scholar, and a former Quaestor of House Gladius.

Early Years

Reared on Dantooine in the Outer Rim, Sato's early life was highly unremarkable. The orphaned son of impoverished farmers, Sato spent his formative years as a ward of the Dantive government. As time inevitably moved on, Sato grew into an intensely private yet inquisitive individual posessed of a keen intellect. As the other orphans in the Children's Creche spent their days in play and lessons, Sato was most likely to be found in the small library, pouring over any bit of information that caught his fancy.

By the age of 12, it became clear to anyone who had prolonged contact with the young Sato, that there was something peculiar about the lad. Whilst quiet and unassuming in his comportment, a whisper of something dark could be seen in his eyes. A darkness fueled by the rage that consumed the young man...body and soul. It was in his twelfth summer that Sato finally gave in to his darker impulses, with tragic results:

It began with a scuffle as an older lad in a rush ran headlong into young Sato, knocking him upon his bum. With a quiet grace which belied the anger that he felt, Sato righted himself in an attempt to restore some semblance of his dignity. Enraged that his timetable had been thwarted, the elder lad grabbed Sato as the younger man had turned to leave and threw a viscious uppercut into the boy's face before pushing him once more into the dirt. With a string of curses, the older boy cracked his knuckles and prepared to leave. As he jogged by, Sato felt his anger flow outward, and the boy imagined engulfing his elder in a corona of fire. With a grunt, Sato's assailant fell over dead, his heart having exploded.

Terrified at the thought of spending the rest of his days incarcerated (or worse), Sato hurried to the cubicle he called a room and quickly gathered his posessions. Under cover of darkness, the young man made his way to the only spaceport on planet. Deseperate to escape, yet with no funds at hand, Sato slinked from cantina to cantina in the vain search for a ship that would give him pro bono passage. Finally nearing the end of his proverbial tether, the young man ducked into the last cantina in the spaceport. This action would prove to be most fruititous for the newly christened outlaw. Within the bar, Sato encountered one Ren Shak'tl skipper of the good ship Helion. In exchange for his services as general ship's slave, Ren agreed to take the boy off planet. It was the beginning of the first friendship of young Sato's life.

Call of the Dark Side

For five years, Sato sailed the trade routes of the cosmos with the crew of the Helion, living the life of a smuggler, lover (the hearts of many females were broken in this era), and sometimes scoundrel. Yet life was not all ale and snoggings for the 17 year old. Indeed, for months, he had been plagued by strange visions and dreams. In them, he heard the faint call of his name wafting outward from some strange part of the galaxy. As time went on, the visions became more and more insistent, and violent. They pulled upon the young man's senses with all the subtlety of a Rancor in a petting zoo. Unable to resist the torment any longer, Sato made his intent to leave the Helion at her next port of call known to his old friend and captain Ren.

Rather than show concern for his young protege, Ren laughed in Sato's face informing the young man that he had not yet "worked off his debt" to the Helion. With the shroud of false friendship dropped, Sato attacked Ren with a vibro dagger and very nearly killed the older man before three other crewmates intervened and stopped him. The young man was thrown unceremoniously into a storage closet to think about what a bad lad he was.

Enraged at his confinement and tormented by the latest assault of visions, Sato stormed and raged within his confines. The teen fought to keep control of himself but to no avail. As the hours passed and the visions became more bloody, he noticed that he could sense the rhythms of the ship's crew as they went about their business above deck. If he concentrated hard enough upon an individual he also discovered that he could feel what they felt, and with even more effort peer at their thoughts. This pseudo meditation calmed the young one down, he had found his centre. Always fascinated by the world around him, Sato began exploring the sensations which he experienced in this newly found phenomena. He soon discovered that although his cell was pitch dark, he could "feel" the objects around him and give them small nudges. Delighted at the prospect of newly found abilities, he rested and bided his time.

Feeling the rhythm of the crew slow down at the onset of the night watch, Sato pulled himself out of his restful torpor. He channeled as much of his new power as he could and directed it outward toward the sealed door, and with a huge exertion...nothing happened. Again and again he tried to no avail. Finally, frustrated he gave one last effort and with the extra charge of passion, the door exploded outward.

As the crew of the Helion slept, a dark shadow moved from cabin to cabin, dispatching those within with cold calculation. With all but two of his former friends including Ren destroyed, Sato made his way to the freighter's cockpit, where he was able to kill both pilot and co-pilot. His grisly work done, Sato sunk into the pilot's seat and collapsed into sleep, exhausted by exertion.
