Character History

Markus as a child

Markus Krane led a troubled childhood. Losing his parents at age 8, when an unknown intergalactic slave trader came to his village, killed his parents, and kidnapped him. While under this man's possession, Markus Krane, or just Krane as he came to be known around the barge, found a young girl's dancing shoe. Something about the shoe reminded Krane of his mother, who was a dancer in her youth. He had seen holocrons of her dances when he was a young boy. It is rumored that Krane kept this girl's shoe for 13 years. No one knows where he kept it, but few knew that he did. On any day, Krane was lucky to get enough food to eat as the trader's barge traveled across the galaxy.

One day, after a squabble with another slave that ended in that slave's death, Krane was punished by his keeper with a sever beating. This beating gave Krane two scars, one physical, and the other emotional. Up until that beating, Krane had never received much attention from the trader. But the beating had taught him that the trader had no feelings. It also told Krane that he had to escape. So, after being healed by one of the old women on the barge, Krane took his chance, waiting until the barge landed in a city port, said goodbye to his friends, and escaped. His master took several shots at him, but he escaped with no injuries.
