Biography

Serros was raised on Bastion, the son of lower-class parents. Throughout his childhood, he swore that he would rise up out of the ghetto around him, overcome it, and leave it behind. On Bastion, one's entire career was all but decided by the time the graduated from preparatory school. Knowing this, Hiale took his education very serious, graduating second in his class behind his close friend, Arik Shathis. The two were roommates at Imperial University on Bastion, and Serros decided to study biotechnology and neurobiology. He graduated Magna Cum Laude, and knew he wanted to dedicate his life to helping others. Little did he know what this help would bring him.

After three years of general practice, during which he built a significant client base and found himself not only successful and satisfied with his career, but quite wealthy as well, he decided to look into further opportunities to help people, outside sphere of medicine. He invested much of his funds into construction projects in the various ghettos around Bastion's capital, particularly the area he come from. With the housing situation improved, he turned his eye to the job market. While looking into ways to decrease unemployment and raise wages, he received a call from his old friend Arik Shathis, asking him to join his medical team. Serros jumped at the change to work with Shathis again, and the two were brilliant together. Soon, though, tragedy struck.

Arik and Hiale were working the case of a patient with a degenerative neurological disease. It affected motor control, causing unsteadiness at first but eventually becoming full-blown tremors and, finally, effecting vision and speech. Oddly, this disease could be transmitted by touch, unlike most conditions of its kind. Additionally, it was a cross-species disease. A lab accident led to both doctors being infected. They managed to develop a treatment to keep themselves from infecting others, but were unable to develop a cure. The hospital was unwilling to fire them after all they had done, and so they were moved into administrative positions, eventually running the entire medical center. Hiale used his new-found influence over hospital policy to change the standard of medical care given to the poor and down-trodden, and to convince doctors to lower their pricing.

Finally, many years later, he received another call from Arik, asking for his help with an outbreak. Overjoyed at the possibility of practicing medicine again, Serros rushed to Tarthos to assist with the plague. Together they managed to find and disseminate a cure. While Hiale entered the political spotlight, Serros enjoyed his relaxation and Serros and the continued help he provided the population. In the end, though, Hiale once more asked for his help, this time requesting that Serros join the political machine of Tarthos to serve as Legate, a position he could not turn down.
