Vessel Info

A Lancer-class Frigate at its core is an anti-starfighter warship. While capital ships such as Imperial Star Destroyers were unmatched in firepower against other capital ships, they were often victim to a Rebel Alliance tactic called "Trench Run Disease" - a tactic involving snubfighters flying close to capital ships and delivering payloads to sensitive equipment. With the vast majority of a capital ship's weapons being dedicated to fighting other capital ships, there were scant few weapons available to deal with enemy starfighters. The 250 meter long Lancer Frigate is equipped with twenty quad laser turrets and fast engines making it excellent for starfighter hunting, but cannot go head-to-head with capital ships.

Lancers were considered to be too expensive during the Rebellion times, but made a resurgence in the Imperial Remnant to follow and even the New Republic Defense Fleet. In the Yuuzhan Vong War, the New Republic put many of the Lancer-class frigates into use against enemy coralskippers.

History

The need for more specific anti-starfighter ships was apparent to Taldryan for some time, and following the Fleet Modernization Acts we made sure to fix that. The Fury and Vengeance stand in Battlegroup Vanguard as a line between incoming attackers and the leading capital ships. While we have a large enough fighter and bomber contingent to do the same, these ships allow us to send out more offensive forces against opposing capital ships.
