The ‘’’Character Progression System’’’ is a system created by Clan Taldryan’s Teebu Nyrrire for initial usage and refinement within the clan. While it is not connected to any Dark Jedi Brotherhood systems, tracking and advancement are maintained within a character’s ‘’’wiki’’’ page and in a google spreadsheet database maintained by the Game Masters of the clan.
What is the Character Progression System
The Character Progression System allows a member to progress their character through a slow process, based on several factors that allow for ‘’’promotion’’’ as the character grows. The purpose is to allow participants to create their character's story and physical development, either from the very beginning of a career as a recruit (or in rank case, Novitiate), or anywhere along the line based on the DJB Rank of their character, all with the assistance of a Game Master running either solo-based or group-based roleplaying sessions.
By enabling this, the planned idea is to encourage greater investment and interest in a member’s character as well as more pride in being able to take part fictionally within the clan in a canon way. As such, unless dictated otherwise, everything accomplished in a roleplaying session is to be considered canon and can be reflected as such by members.
Example: Taldryan Enlisted Military Progression
To give a general overview of this, I will use the ranking system created for use within Taldryan for the Taldryan Military.

As you can see, a new person who joins the Dark Jedi Brotherhood as a Novitiate 1, or ‘’’Initiate’’’, or an alternate character set to that rank would be able to begin at the very starting tier of where they are at. Once that member meets the successive requirements of each level, they would be able to ‘’’promote’’’ within the Taldryan Military.
So if a new member, or veteran who starts a new character at Novitiate 1, chooses to go the Fleet Command route, they would start off as a basic recruit freshly joining the military. After their first Fleet Command RP session with a GM introducing this narrative, they would move up from a Taldryan Naval Recruit to a Crewman. Upon reaching the rank of Novitiate 2, and a second Fleet Command RP session, they would advance up to Senior Crewman.
Or, if a veteran player with the rank of Journeyman 3 chooses to start their character off at that rank within the Taldryan Army, they would begin their adventure at the rank of First Sergeant.
Each promotion includes new roles, responsibilities, and possibilities for the member to pursue fictionally, with the Game Master reflecting that in each future session. How each member progresses internally in those ranks is entirely up to them.
With the military system at least, once a member reaches the rank of Journeyman 3 and has attained the rank of ER-9 within their branch, they can then opt to begin working towards becoming an Officer of that respective branch (or even progress into Taldryan Intelligence, a special branch accessible at that point.)
Character Progression System: The Basics
Once a member has completed their ‘’’Character Sheet’’’, if they choose to participate in this system; all they have to do is contact one of the clan’s ‘’’Game Masters’’’. At that point, the two of them would begin working towards figuring out how and where that member wants to progress. There are dozens of potential career options, with the starting career listed below for the Starfighter Command branch.

A member wanting to enter the Starfighter Command branch at the Novitiate rank would be subject to the requirements above, and the pre-set starting narrative as to how they first joined. As you can see, they must have Piloting at a skill level of Trained to take on this career within this system, and only Starfighter RP sessions will progress them along the promotion track. Each potential career, or track promotion, has its own distinct requirements.
So if a member chooses to take part in an Open Play session, or a mission planetside where the usage of a starfighter is not applicable, then it will not count towards that unless approved by a GM and you have contributed 5000 words or more to that session. In many cases, this will be allowed, but the focus should be on your career progression and if it is excessively utilized where you are rarely in the cockpit of a starfighter, then it can be restricted.
Career Progression Systems
There are two types of progression systems for careers, Military Progression and Civilian Progression. Military Progression is highly structured and strict in terms of how a member progresses along its pathing, with far fewer career options compared to Civilian Progression. The benefit to it, however, is that in many canon fictional situations that the Clan is involved in; the military is usually involved and therefore has the added reward of members within the military being included fairly frequently in fiction updates.
Civilian progression is less structured, more focused on specific skill progression with many more career options compared to the more structured military.
Military Progression
Military Progression is focused around four specific branches at the Enlisted stage, adding a fifth at the Officer stage. Those four branches are:
- Fleet Command
- Starfighter Command
- Marine Corps
- Army
- Intelligence (Unlocks at Officer)
There are three progression tiers within each branch, Enlisted, Officer, and Flag. Enlisted careers focus on the non-commissioned side of the spectrum from grunt work, in-field operations, security, patrols, and much more. Officer careers lean more towards small unit command and more responsibility, such as a Naval Bridge Officer, Flight Officer or Squadron Executive Officer, Company/Batallion Leader, or Intelligence Agent. Flag careers lean heavily into command, beginning at Corvette or Cruiser command, Squadron Leader or Wing Commander, Regimental Commander, or Intelligence Command.
New members of the Dark Jedi Brotherhood begin at the start of the Enlisted stage (ER-1), while existing members may place themselves or an alternate character at a rank of their choosing up to their current Dark Jedi Brotherhood rank.

Civilian Progression
Compared to the military, progression within the Civilian careers is vastly different and more unstructured. They are primarily dependent on the character's Discipline, Tradition (if applicable), and Skills which will guide them through three different progressions tiers: Basic, Journeyman, and Artisan.
Progression Requirements
Due to the more unstructured nature, much of the progression within the Civilian careers is exclusively set around Skills and a character's Discipline.
Basic: Career-appropriate RP Sessions and learning career-appropriate skills and ranking them up through RP and Skill Points
Advanced: Complete Basic Tree skill requirements, unlock Proficient (+3) without feats.
Artisan: Complete Advanced Tree skill requirements, unlock Adept (+4) without feats.
