The Antei Nebula (also called the Antei Sector) is a nebula located in the Outer Rim just off the Hydian Way between the old Sith Empire and the Corporate Sector.

The nebula is commonly known to as the the Shroud due to the way it absorbs most of the light from the nearby stars making it appear like a black stain in the night sky. It contains three known inhabited star systems: Antei, Antares and Arx.

The nebula has remained undisturbed by the rest of the galaxy since early days. This is perhaps because of close proximity to the Sith Empire or else simply through lack of interest— the Antei Nebula is notoriously difficult to traverse. The local species have also never sought to develop space travel. Modern scholars speculate this may be due to the cultural impact of the emptiness in their skies leading to an absence of interest in exploring the unknown.

In c. 5050 BBY the Antei Nebula was a moderately populated region with the Antei system home to several billion sentients. The arrival of the exiled Sith Lord Okemi had the alien revered as a God-King by the native people. The arrival centuries later of Tiamat and Ferran led to the creation of the Star Chamber as the ruling body of the Anteian race.

The modern day Antei system arose from the disasterous attempts of Taimat to harness the power of the star Antei for her own purposes. The ritual failed when Ferran, under the control of Okemi, slew the Krath sorceress. Instead of harnessing the power the star collapsed into itself robbing the Antei system of its light. Without the warmth of the star civilisation on Antei practically died out.

During the following three thousand years the systems of Antei and Antares slowly came together as Antares siezed its dead neighbour into its grip of its own gravity.
