- "Jee-jee koona tah wanga noleeya, tah boonta chuba tenya!"
- ―Duke Vulgar
Zebina Arad is a male human from Chandrila, currently serving as the Fleet Captain of the ODN Hope's Whisper and is a member of the The Council of Odan-Urr. He has served in the planetary militia of his homeworld Chandrila in a reserve capacity, while preparing for a career in politics, was trained at the Imperial Academy at Carida and finally served in both the starfighter corps and naval forces of the New Republic before relocating to Wild Space and joining Odan-Urr as a Jedi.
Character History
Early Life
Zebina was born on a still democratic and unoccupied Chandrila in the twilight years of the Republic to a modestly wealthy family in the bureaucratic class. An only child and without close cousins, aunts, or uncles, he spent the majority of his time either buried in literature or day-dreaming about spaceborn adventures. While still a youth, his family relocated from the agricultural outskirts of Salline into the capital city of Hanna, where opportunities for political attendants like his parents were greater. His family was present for and survived the StarWars: Confederacy of Independent Systems biological attack on Hanna City, though many of their friends and peers were lost to the horrific warcrime committed by General Durd. The end of the Clone Wars and the transformation of the Republic into the Galactic Empire were the backdrop to Zebina's youth and education. As a teenager, he was a reserve member of the Chandrilan Planetary Safety Commission. He attended political preporatory schools on both academic and social scholarship (being field-born) but had his sights set on the new opportunities for youths in a galactic military no longer populated by clones.
Later Education and First Deployment
Zebina finished his secondary schooling in 4 BBY and transferred to the Imperial Academy at Carida upon acceptance of his application. Although, he had submitted an intention for serving aboard a capital ship, he was inducted into the academy as a starfighter pilot candidate and received his training on the TIE platform. He often describes his time at the academy as uneventful, but was deployed on several combat missions as a member of the Bronze Squadron (a squadron of academy cadets serving genuine time in deployment) aboard a Strike Cruiser. Zebina survived the academy's rigors and graduated in the middle of his class the same year that the first Death Star was destroyed in the Battle of Yavin, after which he was commissioned as a Junior Lieutenant and transferred to the 719th Imperial Fighter Wing aboard the Star Destroyer Infractor.
Time Aboard the Infractor
During his two years serving in the 719th Imperial Fighter Wing, Zebina's skills as a pilot improved, but, a typical, free-spirited Chandrilan, his patience for the strict unending rigors and brutality of life aboard a Star Destroyer wore thin. His deployment primarily consisted of combating piratical activities in the Mid Rim on the edges of Hutt Space. During this time, he was recognized as an adept pilot and elevated to a TIE flight commander, but was overlooked for promotion due to his difficulty fitting into the Imperial culture of order and organization.
It was toward the end of his rotation aboard the Infractor, in 2 ABY, that Zebina first encountered the Rebel Alliance. The Star Destroyer, operating alone in the Daalang System in order to apprehend or destroy spice runners in the employ of the Hutts, was ambushed by a large Alliance force, including several squadrons of X-wings and a Mon Cal Cruiser. Caught off guard and out of position with its squadrons in wide patrol formation, the Infractor's TIE complement was quickly destroyed or disabled and the Star Destroyer jumped to safety, abandoning them. Zebina, along with several of his comrades, had been put out of action and was captured by the enemy cruiser.
