Character History
Early Life
Elan Gable is the youngest grandchild of Mirran Tomos Gable, the current Minister of Education of Dajorra's executive branch. Raised primarily by his stepmother, Elan nevertheless inherited the legendary hard-nosed, wry mannerisms and drive to excel that had propelled his grandfather to the heights of fame within the Dajorran executive branch. He resented the expectations of his family and caste, and often publicly derided the notions of station as medieval and archaic, alienating his peers and his teachers in primary school and starting the process that would forment a rebellious streak that he would carry with him into adulthood.
Joining the Expeditionary Force
He nonetheless led a privileged but focused lifestyle, his technical aptitude fostered from a very early age, and despite several lucrative civilian career opportunities on Selen, Elan enlisted in the Arcona Expeditionary Force in 26 ABY, eschewing what he saw as a decadent and idle upper-class lifestyle on his homeworld to instead seek adventure and intrigue as a military technician. Chastised by friends and family alike for what they viewed as a scandalous breaking of rank, Elan pressed on with determination, accepting assignment to the BAC Shadow and stoically accepting his family's disowning after he began courtship of a lower-caste Eldarian woman, Sisha Nhac, who Elan married in 26 ABY.
Chief Engineer
Immediately distinguished from the rest of his mechanical team, Elan's roguish streak and incendiary temperament made him something of a celebrity amongst the rank and file of the BAC Shadow's officers. A routine naval drill in the 27 ABY saw a standard shuttle retrieval go awry; a subflight engine exploded and crippled the craft in its descent to extract Selenian marines on Sukhur, spinning into a grim death spiral towards the lifeless planet. Elan's unshakable tenacity and grit in the face of danger saved the life of those on board, as he was able to patch through a maintenance droid on board the shuttle and divert the systems' emergency power to guide the shuttle to a controlled - if bumpy - landing. Since this incident, Elan has continually proven his dedication to his people and his homeworld in minor engagements across the Dajorra system.
Personality
Many of his contemporaries describe Elan as an arrogant, opinionated and cynical individual; those who consider themselves his close friends understand that he's long had a chip on his shoulder because of the consequences of the life he has charted for himself in spite of his family's wishes. Although many consider Elan abrassive and avoid him - if for no other reason to keep from starting up a fight - most of the Shadow's crew respects his mechanical prowess and admires his indomitable spirit.
