History of the Position

The position of OathMaster is patterned after one of the oldest House positions in the Dark Brotherhood, along with Quaestor and Aedile. With the advent of the database and centralized storing of all member information, the position of Rollmaster was slowly fading away to obscurity.

That all turned around in House Acclivis Draco of Clan Scholae Palatinae. Quaestor Michael Halcyon charged the new Rollmaster, then Guardian Timbal, with the newly modified title of OathMaster. The OathMaster now had a new duty: The preservation of the culture, documentation, traditions, and overall works produced by the members of the House. It was later expanded to include all of the works accomplished by the members of the Clan, and remains its charge to this day.

Duties and Responsibilities

Not many have been actually awarded the title of OathMaster. This is because someone can be a Rollmaster, but not an OathMaster. The state of being that is the OathMaster requires a deep commitment to the preservation of the history of the Clan, at all costs. Furthermore, they tend to be the first ones that are called upon to present whichever ritual is needed for the task at hand, be it either a promotion or a certain piece of Clan lore, or other tasks. They are seen as the Keepers of the Clan Identity, and as such wield respect and honor within the Clan.

Traditionally the position of OathMaster is given to those that serve within House Acclivis Draco, but it is open for anyone within the Clan, regardless of House. All that is necessary is a burning passion for keeping the ever-lasting duty of the position.
