These approval guidelines are drawn from the Character Creation Guide and Voice staff discussions. The Voice staff have authority for approval of character sheets. Sheets that violate one of the primary criteria listed below will be remanded, while those that violate secondary criteria will receive a note in the approval.

Primary Criterion

Violation of any of the primary criterion will lead to a remand of the character sheet in question

  • Does the characters physical description match their race.
  • Physical Description should NOT explain how a character behaves under specific circumstances - this is for Aspects.
  • Physical Description should be purely cosmetic, so while tattoos, cybernetics, or other “modifications” are allowed, they are PURELY cosmetic.
  • Hybrid species are HIGHLY discouraged. Should a member go with a hybrid despite this, they may only have one set of advantages/disadvantages from one of their parental species - the other is purely cosmetic.
  • Preferred Weapons should NOT explain when or how a character uses a specific weapon - this is for Aspects.
  • Preferred Weapons should essentially be a typical loadout a character brings into general, small-scale combat, such as a duel or small skirmish. It is NOT essential a member reflects a weapon for each weapon skill they have, and long lists are discouraged.
  • Preferred Weapons should be specific weapons instead of broad categories (e.g., Echani Knives instead of “Bladed Weapons”) except in the case of Lightsabers where the lightsaber is displayed on the Dossier.
  • Preferred Weapons may make reference to eschewing weapons in general in favor of the Force but MUST NOT go into much more detail than that - No specific references to Powers, and this must be accompanied by an Aspect that says the same.
  • Any Preferred Weapon that is not a lightsaber and is custom in some way must be approved by either the Voice or the Grand Master, and these exceptions are usually only for grandfathered weapons.
  • Lightsaber choices must abide by current rank restrictions:
    • INI-ACO: Access to single Training Saber
    • PRT-JH: Access to single Armory Saber
    • DJK+: Access to single Custom Saber
    • EQ3+: Lightstaff
    • EQ4+: Dual Custom Sabers
    • DA+: Custom Lightstaff
  • Do the points in Lore Skill match up with the number of Lore Topics listed. Members are allowed to know broadly the history of the DB, of the New Republic, and the current era in general, and species-specific lore or history. They may also reference a topic in an Aspect that would qualify for inclusion in a Lore item, regardless of points, but the topic must be clear from said Aspect.
  • Do the points in language match up with the Languages listed. Alien races get their native tongue by default, as well as Galactic Basic. In addition, Aspects may make references to a specific cult or the like that could be used to explain Language usage.
  • Custom Aspects should have each letter of each word capitalized in their title.
  • Custom Aspects meet the criteria listed below.

Secondary Criterion

These are things that don’t necessarily mean a remand, but should be noted to the member.

  • If a member has a preferred weapon in a weapon skill with no points, Approve the character sheet with the comment that the member would not be very good with the weapon indicated in his or her preferred weapon box.
  • Does the characters physical description give an idea as to what the character looks like? (“Red hair, blue eyes”- doesn’t really count when there is nothing else filled in.) If the description is far too vague to get any idea what the character looks like, remand.

Custom Aspects

Custom Aspects are all about balance. Every trait should have a plus and a minus, a merit and a flaw, a perk and drawback. On a basic level, these are things like, “focuses on melee combat, which makes CHARACTER less efficient against marksman and ranged fighters.”

Things to also look for are, “Is the Aspect supported by the characters skillset/force powers?”. For example, if you have a feat that says, “blademaster of the first echelon!”, you would expect the character to have at least a +3 in bladed weapons, and maybe a feat like “There Are Many Like It, But This One Is MIne” to add merit to the claim.
