Nintura is a world of lush jungles and abundant life forms, boasting a rich history and the moniker of an ancient culture’s deity of justice. Before Clan Plagueis inhabited the planet, it was controlled by the Ninturan Preservation Coalition, a group of Wookiees who attempted to transform the jungle world into a second Kashyyyk.
The planet is composed of three major continents and numerous islands, the largest of which is Solace. During the Eighth Great Jedi War, nearly all civilization was wiped from the planet, bombed by the Yuuzhan Vong for hours until every city was leveled. Unlike Aerun though, Nintura was not terraformed, but the damage to the planet turned away tourists, so revenue dropped quickly. Repairs are currently being done to bring back business.
History
Nintura is a lush jungle world situated in the heart of Jusadih System. While the planet consists of three major continents and various islands, from space the whole of Nintura appears to be covered in trees, due to the fact that Nintura's atmosphere reflects green light as opposed to blue (the exact reasons for this are unknown, but scientists speculate it may have to do with the angle at which Nintura is from Sigil). The planet itself is home to numerous species of flora, most of which are still being catalogued by Plagueis clansmen.
The planet itself is named after a deity of justice of an ancient culture that once existed on Nintura. Only fragmented temples remain, but they have reaped much information about the culture. The species, which referred to itself as the Slydrith, appeared to be Humanoids with a serpent-like countenance: their pupils were slits, they were super-Humanly flexible, and their skin was covered in a thin layer of scales. They had a complex system of deities, and the society was largely a theocracy. No records exist of the Slydrith's demise; they may not have died at all, but moved to another planet. However, all evidence has shown that the Slydrith were not technologically advanced and kept to their jungles. Presumably they were wiped out, but some speculate it may have been Nintura him/herself who destroyed the Slydrith for an insult long-forgotten.
After the disappearance of the Slydrith, Nintura largely remained uninhabited save for the indigenous species already present. Smugglers, Republic officials, and others have all had settlements to various degrees, but for the most part they ended up abandoned or forgotten about. Due to Jusadih's proximity to many major trade routes, until recently Nintura was perfect cover for many smugglers to hide their cargo; or, in some cases, smugglers would drop cargo off at a pre-arranged site, and the buyer would arrive later to retrieve it. This all changed hundreds of years ago.
Today, the is undergoing major restoration, being one of the planets, along with Aerun, hit hardest by the Vong invasion. Most cities suffered heavy damage, and around four million citizens were massacred. While Clan Plagueis is helping fund the Ninturan Preservation Coalition's work to rebuild as much of it as possible, it will take some time to bring back the massive tourism, and in turn profit, that the planet once offered.
Ninturan Preservation Coalition
The majority of the planet is uninhabited at the behest of the Ninturan Preservation Coalition. This is a quaint name for the corporation that has more or less purchased the planet, largely on the account that no sentient species was there at the time they claimed Nintura. Founded and maintained by a group of ambitious Wookies two centuries ago, they likened Nintura to their homeworld of Kashyyyk and believed that the entire planet could function as one, massive resort. On each continent lies a managed facility that functions partly as a city, and partly as a hotel. Citizens may stay as long as they wish (at very steep prices), and are afforded some of the best amenities in the Galaxy. Hunting is one of the common activities, but countless scientists have stayed on Nintura to do research.
The NPC monitors such research very closely and does not allow just anyone to perform scientific analyses. One can imagine, then, that Kir Katarn had to do quite a bit of negotiating to earn his clansman almost a carte-blanche operation on the planet. Plagueis has various, independent facilities located deep in the jungles that serve as training grounds, supply depots, and way-stations. The NPC has only one provision for Plagueis: that they never interfere with NPC-run facilities, and by interfere the NPC meant, never enter. The agreement has thus far worked, and no clansman has entered the resort-cities; the penalty for violating this agreement is death, either by lightsaber or the numerous turrets on the walls of the resort-cities.
Continents
Nintura consists of three major continents and numerous islands, the largest of which is Solace. The three continents are (from largest to smallest): Edean, Verdancia, Treeholme.
Edean
The largest of the continents, and named after the Czerka Corporation's old name for Kashyyyk. Covered nearly completely in jungle foliage, the continent is home to four resort-cities. A vast mountain range divides Edean almost neatly in half and serves as a hiking attraction to visitors. Three of the resort-cities are located near rivers, allowing for river trips, rowing, and other aquatic activities. Near the south-eastern portion of Edean lies a field of massive, claw-like canyons named The Slydriths' Claws; it is a major tourist attraction, and the NPC has permitted small mining expeditions into the canyons.
Plagueis, for the most part, has no operations here as it is the most occupied of all the continents. There have been a few trips to the Claws for rock and mineral samples, but not much more.
Verdancia
The name is derived from the Basic word verdance, meaning green. While only the southern coast is covered in trees, the rest of the continent is largely covered in vast, rolling plains and valleys. Two resort-cities are on opposite coasts on Verdancia (one in the north, the other in the south), and both resort-cities here are considered to be amongst the most peaceful. This is largely due to the geography of the area, and the most common form of relaxation is speeder rides through the valleys.
To the north-east lie a series of mountains and two volcanoes. It is here that Plagueis has a small base, used mostly as a research facility designed to study the volcanic activity in the area. Due to the research-oriented nature of the facility, Krath are known to come here for a few days of quiet solitude and study assuming one of the volcanoes is not erupting.
Treeholme
The smallest of the continents, Treeholme, as the name implies, is also covered in trees. There is only one resort-city here, on the south-eastern coast. Aquatic activities are the main source of entertainment, including swimming, diving, and many aquariums featuring both local and exotic specimens.
Deep in the jungles to the north lays another Plagueis facility. Larger than the one on Verdancia, this base is used as a supply depot and training grounds for Obelisk and Sith warriors. It is also used to research and analysis of the various kinds of plant life present on Nintura, as well as some of the indigenous species.
Islands
The islands around Nintura are, for the most part, small and are not worth much notice. There are, however, a few of note.
Slydrith
Named after the deceased race that once inhabited Nintura, this island is to the north-west of Edean and south of Treeholme. The only remarkable item on the island is the largest Slydrith temple left on Nintura. The majority of our knowledge of the Slydrith comes from the artifacts discovered in the temple. The NPC has permitted Plagueis to investigate the temple at their leisure, barring any tourist trips to the island.
The Jade Lands
To the east of Verdancia are the Jade Lands, several small islands covered in trees. The NPC uses these islands primarily to grow and harvest the food necessary to support their resort-cities. Plagueis is not permitted in the Jade Lands.
The Scales
To the south-west of Edean are a collection of islands called the Scales, due to their chance resemblance to snake scales. The smaller islands are completely desolate; most are just sand and patches of dried grass and reeds. The largest island is covered in trees, and it is here, too, that another Slydrith temple is located. Plagueis is permitted on these islands, barring any tourist trips to the largest island.
Nintura's Eyes
These three small islands are almost perfectly in the center of the three main continents. While the two north-most islands are of no consequence, the smallest island contains a Slydrith temple which, according to the information gleaned from its outermost chambers, is the Tomb of Nintura. Tomb, however, may not be the most accurate translation, and some more recent work has suggested that the temple may be where the seat of Nintura's power was located. Analyses have revealed nothing conclusive, and the NPC has permitted Plagueis to investigate the temple.
Jurak
The largest of all the islands, and the center of Plagueis operations on Nintura. The base of operations, referred to as Lonely Refuge, is an expansive facility on the south-eastern coast of the island. It's hidden by the ubiquitous trees, but a landing pad has been cleverly disguised as a jungle clearing. All Plagueians report to this facility first, and then are transported (if necessary) to the auxiliary facilities on Verdancia and Treeholme. The NPC helped finance the base as part of the agreement reached between it and Plagueis, and as such the base is well defended and tourists know nothing of it. Tourists are forbidden on Jurak, under the pretense that it contains dangerous wildlife. The mind control abilities of the Plagueian Clansmen present have created a blanket over the island, which further encourages any tourists to immediately turn back.
The Resort-Cities
The resort-cities are all alike in design and layout. They all have specific names with flowery titles (for advertisement purposes), except the Grove. The names have little meaning behind them, save to attract tourists to them.
Edean
- Emeralis, the Jewel of Nintura's Crown (southern coast)
- Lakeside, the Shining Star (northern coast)
- Floria, the Verdant Gardens (western coast)
- Floris, the Lush Dale (eastern cost)
Verdancia
- Veridania, the Eye of the Plains (north)
- Azuris, the Eye of the Sea
Treeholme
- The Grove (western coast)
- Vineland, the Jungle Refuge (south-eastern coast)
Emeralis is the largest of the resort-cities, and serves as the Ninturan Preservation Coalition's base of operations. In general, these resort-cities are akin to any other city in the galaxy. They contain shops, restaurants, and homes. All of the cities are heavily defended by automated systems as well as hired police.
Satellites
Nintura has only one moon, colloquially referred to as the Battle Moon Shintura due to the impressive amount of firepower stored there. The name Shintura, coincidentally, comes from another Slydrith deity, the deity of power.
Though small, Shintura is covered in turrets, ion cannons, and any other weapon that the NPC thinks useful in defending Nintura from outside invasion. The three Golan-III battle platforms surrounding Nintura proper also help in defending the planet. Part of Kir Katarn's agreement with the NPC includes at least part of the Plagueis fleet to defend Nintura in case of dire circumstances.
