The Janus is Kir Taldrya Katarn's personal shuttle.

Lambda Class

The Lambda-class shuttle is a standard light utility aerospacecraft in use throughout the Imperial Navy. Built by Imperial starship manufacturer Sienar Fleet Systems, it is reasonably well-armed, with two wing-mounted dual laser gun turrets (with some versions mounting an additional rear twin-laser turret, just above the main thrusters) and a pair of chin-mounted, fixed-forward twin laser guns, suggesting that its main role is special operations forces insertion and extraction. Its similarity to an already-existing type of civilian light utility craft reinforces this impression. However, because of poor acceleration and maneuverability it is incapable of adequately defending itself from enemy starfighter forces. This is exemplified by all flights of ranking Imperial personnel being accompanied by a pair of TIE fighters.

History

After the death of Grand Admiral Thrawn, Kir remained on his flagship, the Chimaera, with Captain Pellaeon for a year before he made his way to the Emperor's Hammer, and thereby the Dark Jedi Brotherhood. The Janus was a personal gift from his soldiers and officers upon his departure.

While working his way through the ranks of the Brotherhood Kir mostly kept it in dock, but once he was appointed Consul of Clan Taldryan, he began to use it as his official vessel. Throughout it's service, Kir has had the Janus modified far beyond its standard configuration to provide for extra protection and armament.

Modifications

Kir began by modifying the Janus's hull plating, strengthening the reinforced durasteel/carbon fiber hull against blaster fire and having it sprayed with a light red paint. While away on business for Clan Taldryan, he then upgraded the standard weaponry by adding another twin blaster cannon and two concussion missile launchers. Finally upon appointment to Deputy Grand Master, Kir decided to increase the shield and engine power. He had additional shield generators installed and hired experts to tweak the engine for the best performance possible. The Janus withstood these changes by sacrificing cargo and crew space.

The resulting craft is much faster, better protected, and better armed - indeed it is a formidable ship. While the ship is a capable fighter, Kir generally avoids combat in the craft if at all possible, preferring battle on the ground to space combat.
