The term Commander can refer to a Military Rank or Title.
A Commander typically serves as a Leader in one form or fashion, serving anywhere from a Battle Team leader, to an Officer on board of a Capital Ship and sometimes even commanding a Capital Ship.
Traditionally in Naval fashion, a Commander outranks a Captain while vice versa can be said for the Army. Commanders are traditionally very high ranked, with only a few ranks standing above them.
