DERREK KORSON is an Mirialan Neophyte from House Empire's Chosen of Clan Scholae Palatinae. He has not attained any accolades of note, and does not come from a noble family. However he is willing to work his hands to the bone to become something greater than he is now.
Character History
Derrek Korson was born on the agricultural world of Xilxash in 14 ABY to parents: Dean and Nomi. Derrek had one older sister, Nadi, who was born in 9 ABY.
Early Life (10 BBY - 28 ABY)
Humble Beginnings (10 BBY - 20 ABY)
Dean and Nomi had been slaves since childhood to Baron Oswalt Modei. The Baron won Dean when he was two years old in a Sabacc game against some random smugglers. A year later the Baron bought Nomi at an Imperial auction. Dean was brought up to be a handyman and mechanic and Nomi was taught to be a maid and handmaiden to the Baron's daughter. As they were the only Mirialan's on Xilxash, (and at times the only aliens on the planet altogether) they were either lauded or despised at the baron's social events. The years passed for them like that, and eventually they came to love each other. Modei was not an evil man, in fact he was quite sentimental. He saw their love and in it he remembered how he felt when he looked into his wife's eyes long ago, before she passed. He freed them both with his blessings and even enough money for them to get by for sometime. Shocked at their good fortune, the pair quickly left the city and moved halfway around the planet. In their new home they got jobs, saved up and eventually had a family.
At the time of Derrek's birth, The Korson’s lived approximately two hundred miles from the capital city of Brining in a rural area dominated by farmland. Dean and Nomi saved up and started a mechanics business that worked on farming equipment and other associated machines. Nomi set herself up as a seamstress, something she had learn to do as a handmaiden. Although the only aliens, no one in the area ever treated the family differently so Nadi and Derrek grew up without scorn. They also grew up as human, never knowing anything about their species.
Friends and the Force (20 ABY - 28 ABY)
The Korson family had many friends but only one family had kids in Derrek and Nadi’s age range: the Ikron’s. The Ikron’s owned a nearby farm and had a whole herd of children. Derrek would come to be friends with two of the youngest, Zeek and Gabriel. The only thing that would separate those three were the chores they all had to do, otherwise they were thick as thieves.
Around the age of eight Derrek started to discover that if he looked and concentrated hard at an object, he could make it move. He showed his parents and they were terrified. They had never met any other Mirialans and knew nothing of their species connection to the Force. Dean and Nomi told Derrek to never show what he could do and to keep it a secret from everyone around him. Zeek and Gabriel were the second to know. Neither of them believed it was real, just a trick, and so Derrek stopped trying around them. Derrek did however keep practicing by himself and eventually he learned to control it enough he could make tools and other small objects obey his will.
Telekinesis was not the only power that Derrek seemingly had. He would occasionally help Zeek and Gabriel with their chores, and whenever he approached the animals on the farm, they would noticeably get calmer. Jaren, the Ikron patriarch, always commented that Derrek was a natural animal whisperer. Jaren even had Derrek come to the farm when there was a stubborn creature about and the boy always seemed to have a soothing affect. Unlike telekinesis though, Derrek didn’t have to concentrate or make any conscious choice at all, the animals just reacted to his presence. Derrek had attended several rodeos after being attributed animal whisper and was asked to not return.
